William "Craig" Ratcliffe

October 11, 1953 — December 26, 2020

William “Craig” Ratcliffe, 67, of West Jordan, Utah passed away due to complications from pneumonia on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 5:10 p.m. at the University of Utah Hospital. He was born in Provo, Utah on October 11, 1953 to William Wallace and Nelda Jean Ratcliffe. He married Dawn Ray Whatcott in the Provo LDS temple on August 20, 1977.

Craig graduated from Orem High School in 1971 and served an LDS mission in California from 1973-75. After completing a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas Permian Basin in business, he worked as a bank examiner for the FDIC for almost twenty-five years. He enjoyed playing sports as a kid, especially basketball and baseball. He loved music, and could regularly be found singing off-key to one of his favorites. He was an avid collector, with interests ranging from sports cards and fossils to stamps and coins. Not only did he inherit the collecting “gene” from his parents, he also became a talented and enthusiastic nature photographer, like his father. He enjoyed traveling in the summers and after retirement with his family. On many trips throughout the western United States and in Alaska and Canada he spent hours enjoying family time, taking photographs, and fishing. His most recent major vacation was a trip to Israel with Dawn in 2019. The two of them spent much of his retirement enjoying time together, traveling to art shows to sell his and his dad’s photographs. He also loved being with—and doting on—his children and grandchildren. The grandkids especially were the light of his life; he loved his little Anthony and his sweet CJ.

Craig is survived by his wife Dawn Ratcliffe of West Jordan, Utah; his mother Nelda Ratcliffe of Orem, Utah; his three children: William “Bill” (Holly) Ratcliffe of Hurricane, Utah; Jason (Allison) Ratcliffe of Pratt, Kansas; and Steven Ratcliffe of West Jordan, Utah; his two brothers: Gary (Michelle) Ratcliffe of Springville, Utah and Jeff (Rokia) Ratcliffe of Orem, Utah; and two grandchildren, Jason “Anthony” Ratcliffe (son of Jason) and Clara Jaynie Dawn “CJ” Ratcliffe (daughter of Bill). He was preceded in death by his father William “Bill” Ratcliffe; his brother Brent Ratcliffe; and his nephew William Ratcliffe (son of Jeff). Alongside those that have gone before, he will also be greeted in heaven by children and grandchildren lost before birth.

A viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday, January 4th from 9:30-10:15 a.m. at the Cobble Creek 1st Ward LDS church located at 8176 South 5140 West, West Jordan. Funeral services will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m., also at the church. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery, located at 1520 North 800 East, Orem.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate funds to help cover the cost of the funeral, which can be sent to the Venmo account of Holly Ratcliffe, which is @Holly-Ratcliffe-1.
