Walter Mccoy

September 4, 1932 — May 11, 2019

Walter Richard McCoy, 86, of Orem Utah, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019. He was the youngest of 5 children born to Edna Grace Higgins and William John McCoy on September 4, 1932, in Wakefield, Massachusetts. He was married to Lois Natalie Walker by her father Reverend Samuel Walker in Blue Hill Maine, March 28, 1956 and they had four children. Lois preceded him in death on October 31, 1999. He was later sealed to Lois in the Boston Temple. Walter married Cathie Brooks Sampson for time in the Boston Temple, October 21, 2006. Cathie preceded him in death on January 5, 2018.

Walter joined the Armed Forces in July of 1953 and was stationed in Colorado driving trucks for the Army. Walter was a hard worker and gave of his time and talents freely in service to others. He often said that the times he was serving others were his happiest times. He was a proud Mainiac, even though he was born in Massachusetts his parents made it up to him by moving to Maine when he was a small child. Walter was never afraid to try something that he had never done before, and often found himself successful in those new endeavors because of his diligence and perseverance. Some might say that it was the Down Easter in him. Walter had the opportunity to travel the world and enjoyed the experiences of other cultures and countries. Walter was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in a variety of callings, but his favorites were as an ordinance worker in the Boston Temple and as a greeter in the Cascade 4th Ward. He loved the chance to welcome fellow Ward members every Sunday. Walter expressed a deep gratitude and appreciation for the excellent care and service he received from the staff at DaVita Dialysis Provo and the staff at Symbii Hospice.

Walter is survived by his three children: Paul William (Mary) McCoy of Waukesha, Wisconsin; Lois Natalie McCoy of Burlington, Wisconsin; Amy Lee McCoy of Lisbon, Maine; two step-children: Summer (Ken) Johnson of Rochester, New York; Samuel Sampson of Orem, Utah; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Walter Richard McCoy Jr, wife Lois, and wife Cathie.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11am in the Cascade 4th Ward chapel, 1051 East 200 North, Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the services. Interment will be in the Orem Cemetery.
