Stanley Tippetts

October 30, 1925 — July 17, 2022

Orem, Utah

Stanley Rogers Tippetts, born October 30, 1925 in Hinckley, Utah and long-time resident of Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on July 17, 2022 due to advanced age. Stanley is a cherished father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. Stanley and Carol Edith Allred were married December 27, 1950, in Spring City, Utah. Carol preceded Stanley in death on September 13, 2021.

Stanley graduated from Ephraim High in 1944. He was the last surviving member of his high school class. Stanley bravely volunteered for military service two times and was denied due to his short stature and low body weight. On January 12, 1945, he was ready to answer the call of his country and was officially drafted into the Army. He served valiantly during World War II as a member of the Army Infantry GI Communications Division in Fort Shafter and Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. After nearly two years of service to his country, Stanley was honorably discharged from the US Army on August 27, 1946. He matriculated in Snow College from 1944 through 1947. He developed a passion for photography and moved to Dallas, Texas, to join the Photo Arts Photography School – he graduated from the program in 1948. After photography school, Stanley returned to Ephraim, Utah ready to become a photographer and rapidly procured a camera and additional photography equipment. While taking pictures of a local choir group, he met his future wife, Carol. However, he quickly discovered that there was no market for his craft in his rural Utah community. He then applied himself and became a self-taught automobile mechanic with an uncanny ability for diagnosing and repairing vehicles. He first applied his trade as a mechanic in Ephraim at Dewey’s Service. Stanley, Carol, and their young children moved to Springville, Utah, in 1953 then to Orem, Utah in 1955. He worked at several service stations including Anderson’s Garage and Provo Auto Electric. Embracing his entrepreneurial spirit, in 1967 Stanley started his own business: Stan’s Chevron. In 1974 Stanley moved his business to Orem, Utah with a new name: Stan’s Tune-Up. After years of supporting his family as a mechanic, he retired in 1988. However, Stanley never knew how to sit still. After retiring, he worked part-time as a custodian at Farrer Junior High School from 1988 to 1995.

Stanley enjoyed the outdoors as a recreational hunter with an eye towards big game and birds. Stanley was a loyal BYU fan and loved most BYU sports. He proudly attended BYU football home games for many years. Stanley loved feeding and watching the birds in his backyard - often times precariously placing bird feeders to have a better view. He showed his love and support for his family by attending as many sporting events and school programs as he could. He regularly got his hands dirty helping his family fix vehicles, working on projects around the home, and working in the garden. Stanley’s personal family history always had a special place in his heart. He avidly read his father’s journals and other stories from his family. Stanley cared for many pets over the years (mainly Chihuahuas) and loved them dearly – especially his last dog, Jazzy.

Stanley is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Carol Edith Allred Tippetts, his parents, Alfred Irvin (A.I.) Tippetts and Eda Elizabeth Cropper, his brothers Twain Cropper Tippetts, and Joyce Waters Tippetts, his sisters Wynona Ericson, Madge Anderson, and Rula Nielsen, and his daughter Charlotte Ann Tippetts Llewellyn. Stanley is survived by his sister, Val Gividen, his children; Allan Tippetts and Jeannie Hiatt, Boyd and Pauleen Tippetts, Phillip Llewellyn, Denice and Paul Porter, Eda and Allen Hill, Floyd and Holly Tippetts, 18 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren.
