Nila Miller

September 6, 1931 — June 25, 2023

Orem, UT

Nila Jean (Brown) Miller of Orem, Utah passed away peacefully on June 25, 2023, surrounded by family.  She was born in Douglas, Arizona on September 6, 1931, but she spent her childhood living in the Mormon Colonies in Northern Mexico.  Even though she moved to the United States during her teenage years, her upbringing in the Colonies had a profoundly positive influence on her life.  She always cherished her heritage and loved to tell her children and grandchildren the faith-promoting experiences of her youth.

On September 21, 1951, she married Theodore Ross Miller in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Seattle, Washington for 10 years before spending the last 54 years in the Orem area. Together,  they raised four children. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she fulfilled many callings in the Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women organizations.  In her later years, she and her husband served a mission teaching at Moroni High School in Kiribati.  They also served as temple workers in the Provo, Utah temple.  Truly, her family and the gospel were her life.

Nila had many talents that blessed her family and friends.  She loved to play the piano, and her home was often filled with sound of beautiful music.  She was also passionate about family history, and she spent many hours searching out her ancestors and writing family histories of them.

Nila was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Irene Brown, and her husband, as well as her siblings, Rena, Martha, Viva, and Delbert.  She is survived by her brother, Les, and four children, Dave (Linda) Miller, Rick (Mary) Miller, Debbie (Ron) Monsen, and Terri (Gene) McMurtrey, 23 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 1, at 11:00 a.m. at 6th/7th Ward church building located at 365 S 900 E in Orem, with a viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.  The family would like to thank Symbii Home Health and Hospice, especially Lindsey, Melanie, and Kami, for caring for Nila during the last months of her life.
