Myrtle Cook

May 28, 1928 — November 10, 2021

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and sweet friend was reunited with her eternal companion and precious daughter on November 10, 2021, at the age of 93 yrs.  Myrtle Call Cook, daughter of Joseph Clarence and Myrtle Elizabeth Eliason Call , was born May 28, 1928 in Bancroft Idaho. She attended grade school and high school in Bancroft. She had 5 brothers and 2 sisters- all who have preceded her in death.

Preston and Myrtle met in Provo Utah in Nov 1947, while Myrtle was attending BYU and Preston had just returned from military service in Korea. After a short courtship, they were married on July 8,1948 in the Logan Temple, Logan Utah. They lived in Provo until 1953, when they built their first home in Orem, Utah. They were blessed with 2 boys and 3 girls. In February 1960, their youngest daughter, Carol, passed away from complications from the measles.

In 1965, US Steel transferred the family to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania where Myrtle served faithfully in many church callings, including Relief Society and 22 years with the YW. She also lovingly supported her husband in his church assignments as Branch President, Stake President and Patriarch for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They taught their children to love God, family, and to serve others.

In June 1982, her husband, Preston, unexpectedly passed away. It was a difficult, lonely transition for her, but she moved forward with faith, trusting in the Lord.

In 1983, she moved to Provo Utah to be close to family and has lived in Grandview Farms for 38 years.  She continually served others faithfully. She served in the Provo Temple for 11 years. She was lovingly called “Grandma Cookie” because she always had homemade cookies and bread on hand to treat anyone who paid her a visit. She made blankets for every one of her 23 grandchildren and many of her great-grandchildren.  She loved to sew, crochet, quilt, and was an avid reader. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary.

When her hearing and feet failed her, and she was unable to visit others, she called everyone in her neighborhood on their birthday. One neighbor said he received a birthday call every year for 28 years.

She is the mother of 5 children: Lynette (Ron) Carter of Orem, Utah: Keith (SueAnn) Cook of St. George, Utah: Reed (Andi) Cook of Houston, Texas: Karen (Greg) Schaack of American Fork, Utah; and Carol Cook. She is the grandmother to 23 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. She will be missed by all.

In compliance with her wishes, a graveside service will be held Friday, Nov. 19th, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Orem City Cemetery.

Mom fought the good fight. She was true and faithful to God and family. She faithfully endured to the end.

Condolences for the family may be expressed on this page.
