Mary Garfield

March 24, 1929 — June 24, 2020

Mom.  Mary Elizabeth Enz Garfield was born in Forest Grove, Washington County, Oregon, March 24, 1929 to Mary May Neyman and Herman Enz.  She was the fourth child and baby of the family. Virginia Spalinger, Harold Enz, Phillip Enz.  She passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 24, 2020, surrounded by her family.  Mary was the last living member of her immediate family.

She married Thomas Edward Garfield on September 22, 1945 in Vancouver, Washington.  They divorced after 28 years of Marriage on June 22, 1973.  After being baptized on February 5, 1950, Mary and Tom became lifelong friends with the missionaries.  They and their five children were sealed in the Salt Lake temple on June 19, 1956.  The family moved to Utah June of 1963.  Mom was truly converted to the Savior as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Her faith was strong and she never wavered.  She served in many and varied positions in her ward.  She was a wonderful mother, busy caring for eight children.  She was a genealogist, scriptorian, and a missionary to her extended family members.  She saw the blessings of temple work.  Mom sent cards and letters to family for their birthdays and anniversaries.  She included not just her immediate family, but aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She could remember every date and her memory did not fail her while she was alive.  Mom read to her children stories like the Mother West Wind series and could recite numerous nursery rhymes.

On May 15, 2019, mom moved to Herriman, Utah from Orem to live with her daughter and son-in-law Lauri and Dennis and was on Hospice the last nine months of her life.  “We loved having her and felt it a privilege to take care of her in our home.”

Mary’s children are Thomas Edward/Bobi and Shauna (Deceased) Garfield Jr, Philip James/Nadine Garfield, Daniel Glade/Kay (Deceased) Garfield, Lauri Jean/Dennis Rosenlof, Mary Jill/Stan Johnson, Gerald Enz/Yoko Garfield, Donna Lynn (Deceased)/Mark Warner, Krista Rae Garfield.

She is preceded in death by her daughter and granddaughters Mary Elizabeth Garfield and Jamie Warner.  She is survived by seven of her children, 22 grandchildren and all 30 of her great-grandchildren

Private family services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2020.  Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
