Marvin Hardy

Marvin Lee Hardy, 85, of Orem, UT passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021. He was born September 29, 1935, in Leslie, Idaho, to Ernest Lovel Hardy and Sivilla M. Patten. He married Vivian Mae Daniels on October 8, 1954, at the Little Rock Ward house in West Jordan, UT.  They later divorced and she preceded him in death.  He married Betty Louise Staten on May 19, 1962, in Columbus, GA, and they later divorced. He married the love of his life, Penny Lynn Clawson, on October 28, 1983, in Elko, NV. They were sealed in the Seattle LDS Temple on April 29, 1992.

Marvin served in the U.S. Army for 21 years and retired as a Major. He served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was an active member of the local Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Orem, Unit 1.  In 1956, he served a mission in Argentina for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Branch Counselor for a small branch in Puerto Rico, and as a teacher for the High Priests Group and the Elders Quorum.  He served as a faithful Home Teacher until he wasn't physically able. He was a man with many interests and hobbies. First and foremost, he loved his family; he loved to play Chess; he loved to write, especially poetry; he enjoyed math; he loved to dance; he loved tying Macramé; he loved puzzles of all kinds; he was a magician; a published author; a teacher; and a balloon artist and decorator. He is known throughout the World as the “father of modern balloon art and decorating”. Marvin lived in a world of black and white only. He was totally colorblind, however, he brought color to the world through his balloon art.  Marvin is now truly enjoying all the colors he had given to the world during his lifetime.

Marvin is survived by his wife Penny of Orem, UT, and nine of his twelve children as follows: Christina Hardy Black of Tooele, UT; Kathy Hardy Brown of Tooele, UT; Bryant Hardy of Magna, UT; Troy Fletcher of Mount Pleasant, SC; Karin Hardy Stevens of Port Hueneme, CA; Lyle Hardy of Halladay, UT; Tamara Fletcher Barnett of Santaquin, UT; Jonathan Hardy of Lake Havasu, AZ; and, Dustin Fletcher of Orem, UT.  He is survived by 38 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.  He is also survived by 3 of his 9 Siblings, Kay Hardy Hoemke of Lacey, WA;  Zerita Hardy Hix of Olympia, WA; and, Artha Hardy Parsons of Mountain Home, ID.  He is preceded in death by 3 of his children, Dawna Hardy; Kevin Hardy; Lesli Hardy Mickey; and 6 of his siblings, William Hardy; Flavilla Hardy; LeRoy Hardy; Loyde Hardy; Donald Hardy; and, Robert Hardy.

Funeral services will be April 1st, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Suncrest 6th ward building, 891 West 130 North, Orem, UT.  There will be a viewing for friends and family prior to the funeral services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Relief Society Room.  There will be a Graveside service at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 S. State St., Provo, UT following the funeral at 1:00 p.m.

The graveside service is open to all who wish to attend.  Please follow the Covid social distancing guidelines.  The funeral service may be attended by family and close friends.
