Lynn Herbert Engberson

December 6, 1957 ~ October 29, 2020 (age 62)

Obituary

Lynn Herbert Engberson returned home to the loving arms of his mom, dad, and his brother Lorin, on October 29th, 2020.

Lynn was born on Dec. 6, 1957 in Hyattsville, Maryland, to Ray and Belva Engberson. He was welcomed into a big family full of love and lifelong support from his brothers and sisters: Ellen, Dale, Dixie, Marty, Peggy, and his little twin brother Lorin. Lynn and Lorin were best friends throughout their lives. They both faced many obstacles, and Lynn learned to stand up for those who were different and befriend those who needed a friend. These traits stuck with Lynn; he loved to talk to strangers and was always quick to make friends with everyone he met.

Lynn was always on the move, living in and traveling to many places. His favorite was Hawaii where he lived while attending BYU Hawaii. He loved warm weather and the ocean.

Lynn loved sharing the gospel. His catchphrase was “Don’t keep the faith - share it!” He served a mission in Oakland, California which he loved and considered the best two years of his life. Many of his mission companions remained lifelong friends.

Lynn married Janet Lofthouse and together they raised six extraordinarily handsome, intelligent, gifted children - Andy, Erika, Lori, Kevin, Patrick, and Shannon. He taught us to share; to act silly; to tell jokes; that it’s okay to cry; how to swim; to talk to strangers; to keep trying; to stop and look at sunsets; to pull over and help people. He loved to call his children constantly and leave them ridiculous voicemails.

In 2012, Lynn fell in love with Victoria McDonald and they were married in the Provo temple. They went on their honeymoon to Lynn’s favorite Hawaiian island, Kauai. They liked to go dancing, travel, and spend time with their children and grandchildren. Together with Victoria, Lynn served a second mission in Columbus, Ohio. Lynn and Victoria loved going to the temple as patrons and ordinance workers. Attending the temple brought him great peace and strength.

Lynn had a contagious love for life. He loved going to the movies and eating popcorn. He loved swimming, snorkeling, and especially relaxing in the hot tub. He loved soul music and rock and roll. He loved driving, singing along to the radio, and tapping his hairbrush like a drumstick against the steering wheel. He loved candy and back rubs. He loved talking. More than anything, he loved people.

He will be dearly missed by his family - his wife Victoria, his 6 children and 5 grandchildren, his brothers and sisters - and by the many, many friends he made throughout his life.

In lieu of flowers, go for a drive and hold someone’s hand; call someone you miss and see how they’re doing; turn the radio up loud and sing along.
