Leda Beale

June 19, 1922 — February 7, 2021

Leda Ann Crandall Beale passed peacefully in her home in Provo, UT on February 7, 2021. She died of natural causes and was surrounded by her three loving children, Barbara DeVol, Rhonda March, and Gary Beale.

Leda was born on June 19, 1922 in the small mountain town of Peoa, UT. She was the eldest of four and the only daughter born to earnest farmers, Robert Lavear and LaVern Miles Crandall.  She was an intelligent and responsible child, looking over her brothers Orland, Dan and Elmo and helping her mother with cooking, cleaning, and sewing. Leda graduated valedictorian in 1940 from South Summit High School in Kamas, UT and attended college classes at Hanegar Business College and Brigham Young University.

Leda married her forever love, Charles Ivan Beale, on February 16, 1946. Charles joined the Army Air Corp and served throughout World War II and the Korean War. During his military career Charles and Leda lived in Champaign, IL, Newburgh, NY and San Bernardino, CA before making their home in Sacramento, CA and later retiring in Provo, UT to be near family.

Leda was an adoring mother who worked as a Key Punch Operator and ultimately became an Accountant. She was an accomplished seamstress known for beautifully crafted dresses, suits, and blouses. She also enjoyed working in the garden and had a special love for roses and camellias.

A humble servant and lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Leda was a veil worker and did French record extraction for the Oakland Templet. Most recently she held secretary and library callings for the Oak Hills 9th Ward and Harold B. Lee Library in Provo.

Through her dedication to genealogy and journaling, Leda leaves a beautiful legacy and rich life story for her 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
