Jeannetta (Thiriot) Peterson

February 27, 1939 ~ September 4, 2020 (age 81)

Obituary

Jeannetta Thiriot Peterson died on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah. She was born in 1939 to Joseph E. and Ellen M. Thiriot and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada where she graduated from Las Vegas High School with the class of 1957.

She graduated from Brigham Young University where she met her husband Jan Farley Peterson (deceased 2006) of Orem, Utah, and they had five wonderful children. After Jan graduated from the University of Utah, the family lived in Western New York, Montana, Utah, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jeannetta taught for the Clark County School District for 19 years. She taught grade school and then became the school librarian. She had an enthusiasm for life that was contagious. She shared her love for reading with her children and grandchildren and all of those she taught.

She moved to Alpine, Utah in 2010 where she was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Box Elder Camp. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved serving in many capacities as a teacher and leader of organizations in the Church.

Jeannetta loved to attend church, to have reunions with family and friends, to cook, and to read. Once when asked if she wanted to go on a vacation, she responded she had already traveled the world through reading her books.

The love she felt for others was evident in everything she did through selfless service. Her home was always open and those who visited quickly became a friend.

She is survived by her sister, Alice Ann Waite-Hoffman, brother Jon M. Thiriot (Judy), and her children, Tod (Ivey) Peterson, Travis Peterson, Andrea Peterson, Christian Peterson, and Emily (Byron) Gibb, and by 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Please don't send flowers, so many of them made her sneeze! In her memory, just eat a cookie and read with a child and share some jokes or poems with your friends. Suggested donations, if desired, to the Joseph E. Thiriot Elementary School in Las Vegas, Nevada.

We will celebrate Jeannetta's life through a virtual memorial service on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. We would invite all who knew her to join us. To request an invite, please send an email to: lifeofJTP@gmail.com.
