Janice Young

July 15, 1936 — July 9, 2022

Orem, Utah

Janice Goodfellow Young passed away July 9, 2022 at the age of 85 of natural causes. We say goodbye to our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who was strongly devoted to her family and friends.

Janice was the first-born daughter to Merlyn James Goodfellow and Elizabeth “Beth” Wagstaff, born on July 15, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah. While living in Clearfield, Utah, she graduated as Valedictorian from Davis High School and had one year of college at Utah State University.

Janice married Horace Allen Young on October 22, 1955. They were blessed with 6 children. Jan was a doting “homemaking engineer” and dedicated her life to taking care of and teaching her family.

Janice later returned to college to receive her Masters Degree in Psychology and  Statistics. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with the Highest Honors. She also taught Statistics at Eastern New Mexico University -Roswell Campus.

Jan and Allen experienced years of thrilling adventures together, leading many tours, and traveling to all 50 of the United States and to 85 Countries across the world. They lived in Utah, Florida, Germany, Spain, Nebraska, and Clovis / Albuquerque / Roswell - New Mexico before Allen retired as Master Sergeant from the Air Force in 1966.

After retiring in Roswell, Jan and Allen returned to Jan’s beloved Utah and have lived in Orem for the past 31 years. They were married for a total of almost 68 years.

As strong members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Jan and Allen shared the gospel with many of their friends and family everywhere they lived. They also served an LDS mission at the Salt Lake City Temple Square. Jan worked countless hours as a family genealogist and submitted thousands of names to the Church for temple work to be done. From her, our family history came alive.

Most importantly, It was by her side that we were taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She would get the scriptures out and teach us. It was there we gained a spiritual foundation to guide us through the rest of our lives. During our late-night chats with her we gained a love for the Savior and a testimony that we can be together forever.

Jan loved each of her children, and regardless of the circumstance was happy to stand by our side. She was a great influence in each of our lives.

Her family was the most important part of her earthly life. There was never a time when she was too busy for us. She knew how to make each person in her life feel special, loved, and appreciated.

We will always be grateful for the example and service of our sweet Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, and friend to all. She was always there for us, our anchor, cheerleader, biggest supporting fan, teacher, confidant, mentor and friend.

We will miss Jan immensely but are grateful that she is at peace and will no longer suffer. We are grateful that she now has the opportunity to be with our Savior, and the other family and friends that have welcomed her with open arms and big hugs. It will be an amazing reunion!! We are so grateful that she taught us of the plan of salvation, which gives us great comfort and knowledge that we will be with her again.

Janice is survived by her husband Allen Young, brother, Dan (Madolyn) Goodfellow; her children, David (Cathy) Young, Pam (Bruce) Goodmansen, Laurel (Bob) Vukich, Vaughn (Donna) Young, and Kristin (Neil) Moulton; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, and her 2 sisters, Baby Sue, and Patricia Ann Goodfellow Wells; son, Kenneth Bruce Young; and grandson Dallen Young and grandson-in-law, Byron Edwards.
