James Henrie

May 12, 1938 — March 17, 2020

Jim was born in Logan, Utah on May 12th, 1938.  After his Dad graduated from Utah State University, the family moved to Montana.  They lived next in Dulce, New Mexico, where Jim learned how to catch wild donkeys to ride on the nearby Indian reservation.

Finally they settled in Lyman, Utah, population 100.  Jim helped his dad milk 18 cows every morning before school.  He rode horses bare back at a young age.  He was an adventurous lad who ultimately graduated to fast cars.  The cops knew him well in Wayne County for speeding.  They also knew him as a good kid who would never be rude.

The family of 9 were deeply religious and active in the LDS church.  Jim served a mission in the Northwestern States.  All that cow milking gave him a life long hand grip that could bring you to your knees when he was greeting you with his handshake.  He attended BYU and Snow College.  He met Marcie Christensen after his mission and married her in 1961.  They had 4 children in 6 years.  Jim was an ambitious, hard worker who started at Kress in Provo and was asked to come work at W. T. Grants in Provo.  He soon moved up the retail ladder to become the general manager of a Grants City Store in Long Beach, California.  When they opened up the new huge store the mayor gave him the key to the city.  On the day of the special Grants opening, Aaron their youngest was being born in the local hospital.

Jim had a young spirit, almost child-like at times, and he couldn’t resist pulling some pretty creative pranks on people!  He moved his family to Utah around 1974 and became an auto parts regional manager.  After 52 years of marriage, his sweet wife Marcie died in 2014.  He met Jill Urish on a blind date in 2016 and they married in July of that same year.  Jim and Jill served a local mission together and enjoyed Temple Work, traveling, and being in the Good Sams R.V. camping club.

He loved the out of doors and four wheeling in the mountains near 1,000 lakes and Boulder Mountain.  Jim was part human and part mountain goat always pushing the envelope by going on very long hikes and 20 mile bike rides.

Jim was preceded in death by his first wife Marcie, granddaughter Shalice Henrie, parents Roy and Wanda Henrie, sister Norma Shaw and brother Boyd Henrie.  He is survived by his wife Jill, siblings Max (Kathy) Henrie, Donna (Clay) Chestnut, Jay (Ada) Henrie, Jan (Robert) Boyer. Children: Eric (Drew) Henrie-McWilliams, Richard (Janet) Henrie, Staci (Alyn) Partridge, Aaron (Leslie) Henrie; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Jim is an example of a humble, kind servant of Jesus Christ.  He served in many callings in the church.  It was always important to him to lighten others’ loads or burdens.  We will all miss him so much and thank you for being such a wonderful, wonderful man!!
