Obituary

Edgar Kent Booth, 93, of American Fork, Utah, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 27, 2023. Kent was born to Edgar Eastwood and Nina Huish Booth August 25, 1929, in Provo, UT. Kent Married Mary Jean Watts on June 8, 1949, in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple. Kent attended school in American Fork, Spencer elementary and Lincoln High in Orem, and graduated from BYU with a degree in physics and math.

Along with his technical education, Kent enjoyed playing the flute and Saxophone in various music ensembles including orchestra, band, and dance bands. His favorite musical endeavor was dance bands covering music of the big band/swing era and 50’s & 60’s jazz.

Kent was an avid ham radio operator from an early age. He built his own transmitters and receivers for decades and managed to install the required antenna gear in conspicuous locations so as not to irritate the neighborhood authorities too much … It was another matter when the transmitters were on and interfering with neighboring tv’s. At the end and through this hobby he had a front row seat to the evolution of technology from tubes to microelectronics and the digital age.

Kent’s professional life centered on technical engineering and marketing in power generation and medical device, imaging, treatment planning, and industrial data acquisition systems.

From an early age, Kent enjoyed outdoor activities – particularly hunting & fishing. Later on, being outdoors proved to be a great joy and comfort in his life. Kent and Mary were well traveled during Kent’s working years. Most of this time was spent in Utah and California with stints in Idaho, Arizona, Wisconsin, & New Hampshire. Kent and Mary were able to travel internationally – something they had wanted to do together in their later years.

Kent was a balancing force in the family with a calm demeanor always willing to diffuse conflict peaceably … unless, of course, shock and awe was required !

Kent was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had many callings in various wards and stakes over the years, a full time mission, served seven stake missions and with Mary two full time missions for the church along with regular temple work. Kent and Mary were always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

Kent was preceded in death by both of his parents Edgar E. (Nina), Mary his wife of 63 years, his brother Earl H. Booth (Charlene) and a grandson James Edgar Booth. He is survived by his sister Beverly Smith (Glen), sons Brion (Sharon), Steve (Teri), Ed (Rowchel), 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way.
