Douglas R Bowden passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the age of 92.

Doug was born January 14, 1930, to Webster Raymond Bowden and Elda Phoebe Wright of Park City, Utah.

He was raised in Park City where he grew up taking care of his wheelchair-bound father, and family. He worked many jobs from cleaning schools, to delivering ice and working in the silver mines. Doug loved to dance. It was on the dance floor that he met the love of his life, Betty Lou Provost. On June 1, 1950, they were married and then later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 29, 1966.

The two of them spent 65 years dancing their way through marriage until Mom passed away 7 years ago.

They made their home in Provo, Utah where they raised their four children, Steven Douglas (Sherry), Stanley R (Janice), Sharlene Susan and Sterling Webster (Judy).

Doug and Betty were never apart from each other. Whether it was on his motorcycle traveling across the country seeing sites from coast to coast, or packing up one of his motorhomes to visit friends and family in Canada, Doug and Betty loved to drive. Doug had a hobby of owning cars and while the total collection is in the hundreds, their favorite car was his convertible Mustang.

Doug saw the importance of family ties and because of this he always made time for family visits. While raising his children, he would travel each weekend to Betty’s parents in Midway, then to his mother's home in Park City and finally down to his brother's house in Salt Lake City. He loved camping and boating where he and his family would go on weeklong adventures. Everywhere they went, he would find others to talk with and through conversation, would make connections to cultivate new friendships. Dad made connections with everyone he met!

Doug worked for Geneva Steel until it closed. After retirement, he and Betty enjoyed eating breakfast every morning at Burger King where together they made friends that have lasted through the years. With family, he loved telling stories from his past and from the time of his youth. He made sure his family knew their ancestors; always asking if we knew so and so, then telling us our relationship and something interesting about them. With Doug’s passing, his family & friends have lost a cherished spirit. However, his view on life has been passed down to those who love him and will not be forgotten.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife Betty Lou Bowden, his parents Webster Raymond Bowden and Elda Phoebe Wright, a brother Darwin, three sisters: Marjorie Burtt, Beth Bowden, and Ginger Hixson, as well as two grandchildren: Jessica and Justin. Survived by his brother Gary Bowden. Many will miss him, including 4 children and their spouses, 16 grandchildren and 35 great-grandkids.

The funeral services will be held at the Midway City Cemetery (600 West 500 South Midway, Utah) on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
