Dorothy Armstrong

September 2, 1922 — March 11, 2023

Orem, UT

Dorothy Ione Armstrong, 100 years, and 6 months old, of Orem, Utah passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023. She was born on September 2, 1922, in Kansas City, Kansas, to John Lester Stucker and Alice Irene Brock. She married James W. Amis in 1940 and was divorced in 1951.  On July 6th of 1952 she married Floyd LeRoy Armstrong.  She and Floyd joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at separate times and were sealed in the Salt Lake City temple on Jan 6, 1959.

Dorothy stayed busy raising 8 children while following Floyd in multiple moves and ventures.  The cities they lived in were Seattle, WA, Roy, Ut, Las Vegas, NV, Huntington Beach, Escondido and Thousand Oaks, CA, and St. George, Ut. They finally ended up in Orem, as he continued to follow his dreams. She helped support the family either working outside the home in secretarial positions (Boeing, Capitol Records, Tally Corp, BYU, Hughes Aircraft and for a chiropractor).  For most of her life she sat at her Ironrite and ironed clothes for other people. When her last Ironrite bit the dust, she retired from ironing at age 92.  She did plenty of cooking, cleaning, laundry and gardening and was always ready to load up and go to the beach or prepare for family camping trips.  She was an amazing seamstress and a talented artist.  She loved to read and listen to music. When she was young she was an acrobat and Adagio dancer.

She and Floyd sang in the Seattle Chorale and in a Southern CA Choir. She played a part in the stage play “A Christmas Carol” and she and Loralee sang in the Chauntenettes singing group in Orem for many years.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her son James W Amis Jr, in Dec 1977 and her husband Floyd in July of 2010.

She is survived by her 7 other children, Donna Dee (Amis) Torres, Doreen Kay Armstrong, Lee Anne (Terry) Parrish, Lynn Stephen Armstrong, Alana Joy Sweetwood, Loralee (Bob) Nunley and Evan LaMar Armstrong.  She has over 20 grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 25th in the LDS chapel at 225 E 200 N, Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 in the Relief Society room followed by a memorial service in the chapel at 11:00 AM. Dorothy will be laid to rest in the Orem City Cemetery on 1520 North 800 East.
