Donald Bruce Moore

September 1, 1926 – October 17, 2020

Old age is a hard task master, but Don hardly noticed the passing decades til on October 17, 2020 the loving father, eternal companion, scratch golfer, dedicated friend, and valiant son of God finally succumbed to its effects and passed away at Utah Valley Hospital after a short but insidious disease.

Don was born in Provo, Utah on September 1, 1926 the 5th child of Clarence Burton and Eleanor Mildenhall Moore. He was forever considered the ‘Baby’ by his mother and his 4 siblings, Larue, Iola, Clarence Burton Jr, and Edith and was always teased about his mother putting him in a dress. “But he had such beautiful curls!”

Don served in the U.S. Army’s American Division during WWII. He would have been in the first wave of soldiers to invade Japan, but the family still thanks President Harry Truman for ending the war just a few days prior. When Don left the service he went with friends into a little ice cream store in Provo and was quite taken with the girl behind the counter. He was so enchanted that he married Jean Stevens on St Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1950. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.

They lived in Orem for 65 years where Don worked at Geneva Steel’s Roller Mills. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked in many organizations including serving as Bishop of the Cherry Hill 5th Ward.

Don had a strong testimony of the gospel and lived his life as a true disciple of Jesus Christ following his teachings and example. He set a wonderful example for his family to follow of what a loving husband, father, and grand-father should be.

Don is survived by his children Bruce and JaNel Moore, Allen and Becky Moore, David and Druscilla Moore, and Laura and Dale Stewart, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandson with one Moore on the way.

Although Don was 94-years old and an 11-year cancer survivor, he was always in fabulous health and last summer was even still golfing 18 holes. But he and Jean were married for 69 years, and he was so lonely after she died last June. He knew that he would be reunited with his family again after death and often spoke of how he wanted to be with her. Well, now he is and will be buried next to her in the Orem City Cemetery. He is also preceded in death by his parents, and all of his siblings.

The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Treeo Senior Living and Utah Valley Hospital for their loving care and respectful service of our dad. We will miss you, Grandpa!

Private family services will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2020, Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
