Corinne Stasinos

July 26, 1930 — November 22, 2022

Orem, Utah

Corinne Beverly Stasinos, age 92, passed away in her home in Orem, Utah, on Tuesday, 22 November 2022. She was born on 26 July 1930 in Los Angeles, California, to Clifford Melvin Hillquist and Wilma Pratt Cheney, and she was the 2nd of 3 children born to that union. She married Nick George Stasinos on 14 Jul 1951 in Glendale, California, and together they raised 7 children in southern California, until his passing in September 1974. After his death, she continued to raise them by herself as a single parent and widowed mother.

Corinne’s schooling beyond high school included an associate’s degree from Glendale College in 1951. She worked at clerical positions at insurance and loan companies early in her marriage. Later in life, she worked as a clerk and consultant in a fabric store for a number of years. Corinne was also active in politics, supporting candidates and causes while serving in the Republican Party since the 1950s.

Corinne was a strong and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life and served in many callings, to include teaching positions in the Primary, Jr. Sunday School, Sunday School, and Mia Maids. She served in the Cub Scouts as a den mother. She and her husband were called to serve as stake missionaries. As she acquired experience and expertise in genealogy, she taught courses in family history and worked as a professional genealogist throughout her adult life, but she loved the work so much, she all too often provided her services for free. Along the way, she amassed meticulous family records and submitted thousands of names for temple work.

Corinne’s greatest achievement in life, and the one that brought to her the most satisfaction, was service to her family as a wife, mother, and home-maker. She enjoyed and excelled at domestic crafts and activities—cooking, sewing, quilting, and gardening. She enjoyed good music, good movies, inspirational books, and most of all loved spending time with her family. She was quick to smile and slow to anger, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, Hallmark murder mysteries, and end-of-the-world disaster movies. She was kind and giving to a fault. She was inordinately fond of chocolate in all of its forms, especially ice cream. She remained committed to the well-being and happiness of her children and was a reliable source of unconditional love and warmth to the very end of her life.

Corinne was deeply loved by her family. She is survived by her 6 sons: George Stasinos of Tooele, Utah; Nick Stasinos of Pasadena, California; Mark Stasinos of Orem, Utah; John Stasinos of Orem, Utah; James Stasinos of Hurricane, Utah; and Michael Stasinos of Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her 2 brothers, Clarence Hillquist and Richard Hillquist; her husband, Nick George Stasinos; her daughter, Kim Kathleen Stasinos; her grandson, Ryan LeBaron, and her great-grandson Alex LeBaron.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, 2 December 2022, at the Orem Utah Suncrest Stake Center at 90 North 600 West, Orem, UT 84057.
