Carlyle Wilcox

February 29, 1928 — September 29, 2020

Carlyle William Wilcox, 92 or commonly reminding us he was 23 ¼, peacefully graduated from this earthly life surrounded by loved ones at his home in Provo, Utah on September 29, 2020. Carlyle was born on February 29, 1928. He was the third child of six children born to Jesma Stewart and Carlyle Wadsworth Wilcox in Alamo, Lincoln County, Nevada. He attended school from the first through fifth grades at Pioche, Nevada where his father was the principal, then sixth and seventh grades at Elgin, Nevada, eighth grade at Caliente, Nevada, and in October of 1942, he entered high school at Henderson, Nevada, then transferred in the second semester to Las Vegas High School graduating in 1946.

After graduation from High School, he served in the United States Army until honorably discharged in March of 1948. He then attended an electronics school in Chicago, Illinois in 1949 and 1950. In 1951 until 1953 he served a full time mission in Oregon and Washington for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After completing his missionary service in 1953, he returned home to Las Vegas, Nevada and began Master T.V. He married Emma Jean McDonald, from Salt Lake City, Utah, in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple on August 12, 1954.

In 1958, he sold Master T.V. and went to work for the United States Post Office in Las Vegas. In 1961 he started as an electronic technologist at the Nevada Test Site for Reynolds Electronics on the National Weather Service projects. He transferred to the Weather Service office in Missoula, Montana and in January of 1970 moved his family. Then to Pendleton, Oregon in 1975, then to Grand Junction, Colorado in 1979 where he worked until his retirement on November 30, 1990.

Carlyle loved to serve in church callings, with a full two year mission as a youngman, and later a 2 year mission with Emma Jean in the Young Adult Branch of Grand Junction. They served in the Vernal Utah Temple for many years as temple workers. He served as a Seventy, as well as many other callings in the church. He loved being a missionary and everything to do with missionary work.

He was a very kind and gentle man with a heart of gold who adored his family. He never let anyone leave his presence without his famous reminders of “remember who you are and what you stand for”, “sure love ya”, “love and appreciate you”, or “love you more than you’ll ever know”. He had an art for gardening and loved to be in the garden amongst his flowers, fruit trees, and other fruits and vegetables. He loved being outside as a lifeguard, fishing, hunting, and gardening, or spending time inside building model airplanes, watching sporting events or the news, and always enjoying a good popsicle.

He is the proud father of 7 children, grandfather of 29 grandchildren, and great-grandfather of 54 great-grandchildren with two on the way and more to come. He is survived by his 6 children: Valarie (Doyle) Rogers of Gooding, Idaho; Kevin (Gwen) Wilcox of Provo, Utah; Annette (Rick) Lindsay of Springville, Utah; Kendall (Teresa) Wilcox of Collbran, Colorado; Wendy (Robert) Kidd of River Heights, Utah; Heidi (Matt) Norman of Lindon, Utah; 29 grandchildren; and 54 great-grandchildren.
