Betty Thomson

July 2, 1944 — April 29, 2023

Orem, UT

Betty Jo Thomson passed from this life and through the veil on April 29, 2023, into the presence of her Heavenly Parents, her Savior Jesus Christ, and her beloved departed family members who were anticipating her return to them.

Betty was born on July 2, 1944, in Oroville, California, to Albert Ross Sweeden and Lela Mettie Tipton, the tenth of eleven children. She learned the gospel at her mother's knee and knew from an early age that her goal in life would be to serve the Lord with all her might, mind, and strength. She became a blessing to all those she came into contact with and shared her testimony at every opportunity she possibly could. She served as a Stake missionary, Relief Society president, Primary president, Sunday School and Primary teacher, Young Women's advisor, and was an avid Scouter, serving as Scout Committee chairman, along with many other callings. She magnified her callings and reflected the Light of Christ in her compassionate and selfless service.

Betty's greatest joy in her life was found in being a wife and mother in Zion. She had been happily married for 43 years to the love of her life at her passing. She was a mother to five children and a stepmother to two, and her patience, wisdom, and spiritual instinct blessed the lives of her children as they progressed through their lives and heeded her counsel. She was a grandmother to approximately two dozen grandchildren and almost as many great-grandchildren, all of whom she tried her fullest to establish personal and lasting relationships with. She was much like one of the mothers of the Sons of Helaman, whose children and grandchildren did not doubt that she knew that if they had faith that the Lord would preserve them through all their challenges. She nurtured their hopes and dreams and ensured that all of her offspring knew that she believed in their ability to be the best they could be. Truly, she was a virtuous woman.

To those that knew her, Betty was a rock of faith, a refuge from the storm, a bastion of sage advice, a smile to share, and a shoulder to cry on. She lived and loved throughout her life to the fullest, exemplifying a Christlike life. Betty is survived by her husband, Steve Thomson, her five children, Wade, David, Lisa, Jennifer, and Stephen, and her two stepchildren, Dee and Adam.
