Bessie Park

July 8, 1925 — January 9, 2020

Bessie Dawn Huntsman Park, 94, passed away peacefully, after suffering a stroke, on January 9, 2020, surrounded by her family.  She was born July 8, 1925, to Vern & Grace Huntsman in Woodville, Shelley, Idaho.  She was born 8 minutes before her twin brother, Boyd; she was the second of 8 children.  She loved playing the trumpet with her twin, Boyd, and in their family band.  Mom really enjoyed playing the trumpet in high school, especially for the school Dance Band.

Mom served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northwest states mission.  She served in Albany, Oregon, and New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada.  She met her eternal companion, James Arthur (Art) Park, while serving as a counselor in the Shelley Stake YW presidency and he was serving in the Stake YM organization. Art and Bessie were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on November 16, 1949.  After they were married, settled in Jameston, ID, where they owned and operated a dairy farm and raised five children.  One son, Kim, died at birth.

Mom loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and served faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which included Ward Primary and Relief Society President and Stake Relief Society Presidency among many others. She loved to crochet, sew, oil paint, read, do puzzles, watch game shows and play card games.  She was a great cook and wonderful baker of bread and treats.

She is survived by her children, Martha Jo Park of Orem, Susan (Rob) Gessel, Pam (Rich) Irwin of La Habra, California, Janice (Karen) Park-Blanchard. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of nearly 50 years, Art Park, and two sons, Don H. Park and Kim Park.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 13, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 865 West 1000 North, Orem.  Viewings will be held Sunday, January 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem, and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church, prior to the services.  Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Shelley Idaho on Tuesday, January 14.  A viewing will proceed the interment from 2 to 3 p.m. at Nalder Funeral home, 110 West Oak Street, Shelly, Idaho
