As a young girl, she loved volleyball and basketball. During World War II, she worked as a welder in San Francisco, California. On July 11, 1950, Ann Ruth Zweifel married Joseph Robert Gillis in the LDS temple in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They resided for many years in Las Cruces, New Mexico and Orem, Utah, until Robert passed away on December 27, 1998.
