Warren Thornock

March 19, 1936 — October 16, 2022

Orem, Utah

Warren Eldon Thornock, 86, of Orem, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022. He was born March 19, 1936, in Magna, Utah, to Fay Eldon Thornock and Nannie Peck. He married Sue Eileen Smith on August 24, 1962, in the Manti LDS Temple.

Warren lived an active life. He loved being with his children, often participating in Scouting activities with his five Eagle Scout sons or supporting activities of his five amazing daughters. He enjoyed many sports over his life and came to love Pickleball in his later years. He loved sharing his talents with others through performance. His witty sense of humor and good nature endeared him to all. He shared many hobbies with his wife including square dancing, world travel, and camping. Warren served his community as a German and Spanish teacher at Elk Grove High School in California for 34 years. He was an excellent husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was his treasure, and he was a rich man. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully until his death. His service included a mission to Germany in his youth and three temple missions – to Ecuador, Germany, and Finland – with his sweetheart later in life.

Warren is survived by his wife of sixty years, Sue; ten children: Kim (Kareen) Thornock of Cleveland, Texas; Polly (Mark) Ludwig of Elk Grove, California; Kara (Johnny) Giles of Huntsville, Alabama; Daniel (Alisa) Thornock of Fort Mill, South Carolina; Heidi (Matthew) Parker of Charles Town, West Virginia; Tai (Trisha) Thornock of Provo, Utah; Nanette (Kurt) Walker of Saratoga Springs, Utah; Connie (Dewayne) Defee of Keenesburg, Colorado; Todd (Samara) Thornock of Lincoln, Nebraska; Darrell (Kelleen) Thornock of Chesterfield, Virginia; 47 grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, LaFay, and three grandchildren, Brian Ludwig, Jody Lynn Thornock, and Deanna Sue Giles.
