Sharon Gaye Sego Gubler (83), our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, November 7, 2025, in Orem, Utah. She was born April 9, 1942, in Romeo, Colorado, to Raymond Rexford Sego and Neva Wilson.

Sharon was raised in a large family in various towns, primarily in Colorado, and she graduated from Nucla High School in 1960. After high school, she attended Brigham Young University, where she met her future spouse, Deon Gubler. Their courtship led to her obtaining what she fondly referred to as her “MRS degree” within her 2½ years at BYU. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity on December 27, 1962, in the St. George, Utah LDS Temple. Deon received military orders to report to Texas for training, so the newlyweds enjoyed their honeymoon as they traveled to his assigned location.

Throughout her husband’s 22-year US Air Force career, Sharon embraced life as a military wife and adaptable homemaker. Their family lived in Texas, Washington, California, Oklahoma, and Utah, and in each place, she created a warm, welcoming home. She truly bloomed wherever she was planted, forming lasting friendships and building traditions that grounded her children during frequent transitions. After Deon’s retirement, they settled in Orem, where she spent the last 41 years living a life centered on faith, family, and service.

Sharon’s six children were blessed to have her at home full-time. She was very resourceful and gifted with a wide range of homemaking talents. She baked homemade bread regularly and filled the family’s shelves each year with jars of canned fruits, vegetables, and delicious jams. Sharon had a knack for turning simple ingredients into comforting meals, especially on tight budgets or with picky eaters in the household. Beyond her talents in the kitchen, she was a fun and fearless mother who enjoyed creating experiences for her children. She took them on countless road trips and adventures to mountains, lakes, beaches, national parks, parades, and historical sites. Even at home, Sharon had a talent for making ordinary days special, planning activities in her own home and backyard that became cherished memories for her family. After raising her children, she went on to work part-time in the customer service industry for about ten years.

A skilled seamstress, Sharon sewed dresses, blouses, costumes, Barbie clothes, and many other items for her children and grandchildren. She even made wedding dresses for two of her daughters. She also enjoyed quilting, and one year created a simple patchwork quilt for each grandchild she had at the time—a gift of love they will always cherish. She also made several piecework bed quilts.

One of Sharon’s greatest passions was family history and genealogy. She spent countless hours tracing family lines, preserving stories, and making sure past generations were remembered. She especially enjoyed discovering connections to royalty, presidents, and other notable figures. Sharon once organized a Sego family reunion for more than 400 people, a memorable event that showed her love of family and heritage. She also devoted many hours to indexing and preparing names for temple ordinances, serving faithfully and with joy.

Sharon had an inquisitive mind and a lifelong love of learning. While living in Oklahoma, she continued her education at Western Oklahoma State College, taking classes in business and photography. She especially enjoyed her photography courses, where she learned to develop film and improved her ability to capture meaningful moments—skills she later used to document family milestones and everyday life. She was always willing to take photos for others at weddings, graduations, birthdays, baptisms, and other special occasions, and she loved sharing those photos with everyone.

Coming from a very large and poor family, Sharon grew up with little money and no opportunity for lessons of any kind. Driven by her love of music and strong determination, she taught herself to read music and play the piano. In high school, she played the drums and other percussion instruments, and she later learned to play the accordion and a few other instruments in her adult years. These musical skills were often used within her home, and her family enjoyed many happy times singing together around the piano.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sharon served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. She was known for her dependability, her willingness to go the extra mile, and her sincere desire to help others. She held numerous leadership and auxiliary positions and served as a ward organist in nearly every ward she lived in—a calling she first received at just 14 years old and continued to fulfill for decades. Music was one of her most beautiful contributions, and her playing brought warmth and spirit to countless meetings and gatherings. In her later years, as she faced health challenges, she was called to serve as a social media missionary for her ward. This assignment helped her stay connected with others and gave her a sense of purpose each day.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 62 years, Deon; their six children and their spouses: Jeri Lin, Richard (Donna), Dee Ann (Michael), Cara Lee (Eric), Kent (Jolyne), and Derek (Jennifer); seven siblings: Raymond “Ray,” Rodney, Marilee, David (Vicki), Radine, Steven, and Neva Ann; sister-in-law Betty (wife of John) and brother-in-law Larry (husband of Barbara); as well as 25 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Rexford Sego and Neva Wilson Sego Bolton; her parents-in-law, Horatio and Genevieve Heaton Gubler; ten siblings: Barbara, twins Riley & Mariah, Veva “Jean,” John, Mayonne, Vontella, Daniel, Michael, and Patricia; her granddaughter, Emily Gubler; along with several in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Sharon will be remembered for her genuine kindness, warmth, humor, and unconditional love. Her influence, memory, and legacy will continue on in the lives of all who were blessed to know her and in her family who loves her dearly.
