Selma Porter

August 2, 1940 — June 18, 2024

Orem

Selma Brown Porter, 83, of Orem, peacefully passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, after a long illness. She was born on August 2, 1940, in St Anthony, Idaho to George Smith Brown and Ruth Ricks Brown. She married the love of her life, William C. Porter, on January 31, 1962, in the Salt Lake City Temple. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2007.

Selma’s life was full of people. Her most treasured times were with family, neighbors, her book club, and scouting. She loved to garden all kinds of flowers, but she could never walk by a rose without smelling it and telling you what variety it was. She was an avid member of the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years, a Woodbadge member (she used to be an eagle), and was honored with the Silver Beaver award. Her hands were always busy; knitting, crocheting, doodling, photography, or playing the piano. She loved wind chimes, holiday socks, and could never drive by a Native American trading post without buying something. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved the women she worked with at WIC (Women Infants and Children) where she was a lactation counselor and nutritionist. Most of all she loved our savior Jesus Christ and served him in every way that she could through her words and actions. She embodied the love of Christ.

Selma is survived by her 3 siblings Sandra Skousen of Monticello; Sid (Chris) Brown of Parker Idaho; Spence (Wendy Spaulding) Brown of Tucson, Arizona; 7 children, Lexie Walker of Eagle Mountain; Elaine (Rob) Watts of Bountiful; William Jr (Little Bill) of Orem; Sherman (Heather) Porter of Pleasant Grove; Greg (Emy) Porter of Payson; Ben (Wendy) Porter of Eagle Mountain; and John (Erica) Porter of Reno, Nevada; 11 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill and two siblings Mike and Mary Ann.

The funeral will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the Cherry Hill 3rd Ward LDS Chapel located at 1650 South 200 East, Orem, Utah. A reception for family and friends will be held from 9 to 9:45 just prior to the service. The burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery immediately following the service.
