In Loving Memory of Robert (Bob) A. Edmunds

Robert (Bob) A. Edmunds, born in 1934 in Waltham, Massachusetts, lived a life marked by adventure, service, and deep devotion to family and faith. As a teenager, Bob found purpose and camaraderie in the Boy Scouts of America, earning the rank of Eagle Scout and becoming a proud member of the Order of the Arrow.

Bob’s love for nature was lifelong and infectious. He shared his passion for the outdoors with family and friends, often hiking Mount Timpanogos and exploring the beauty of the natural world. His spirit of exploration extended far beyond the trails—he served in the U.S. Army in Germany, where he was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and met the love of his life, Gerda. Their marriage spanned 67 joyful years.

Together, Bob and Gerda built a legacy of love and family. They are the proud parents of five children, grandparents to sixteen, and great-grandparents to three, soon to be four. Bob enjoyed a fulfilling career with Liberty Mutual Insurance, but his true joy came from the experiences he gathered around the globe. He traveled extensively, visiting the Soviet Union, Africa, Israel, Egypt, and many countries throughout Europe.

An avid bicyclist, Bob embarked on annual cycling adventures with close friends across numerous U.S. states and Canadian provinces. At age 62, he accomplished a remarkable cross-country bicycle journey—a testament to his enduring vitality and zest for life.

Bob and Gerda also served a family history mission in Frankfurt, Germany, where they helped teach communities across Europe how to use family history software. A passionate family historian, Bob was deeply proud of his heritage as a descendant of John Alden, one of the original Mayflower pilgrims.

His commitment to faith was unwavering, and his favorite church calling was serving as a temple sealer for 24 years in the Boston, Provo, and Orem Temples.

Known for his storytelling, Bob was a master of tall tales and a collector at heart. His treasures ranged from rocks and fossils to figurines and even gift cards—each item a reflection of his curiosity and charm.

To know Bob was to know a good man: kind, adventurous, faithful, and full of life. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he loved and inspired.

A graveside service will be held at the Provo City Cemetery Saturday, September 27 at 1PM.
