Listen to Obituary

Robert Wayne Coomes, 73 of Provo, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 12, 2025. Bob was born August 4, 1952, in Orem, Utah, to George and Lola Mae Coomes. He had 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Bob received his education at Westmore Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High and Orem High. He worked at the old Conoco gas station, across from the Scera Theater while in High School, then for Ace Rents for a couple of years. During those early years he developed mechanical skills. His first car was a 1962 Corvette, and he also acquired a 1955 Ford pickup. Both of those rides tested his abilities. Although on his way to Phoenix to help his relatives sell Christmas trees, the steering wheel in the ole 55 came loose from the column. To hear Bob tell the story, he just let off the gas and eventually drifted into a flat area. But for most of his life he worked in construction, where he honed his skills as an expert carpenter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors. He purchased a duplex in the mid 1980’s and remodeled it from top to bottom. A few years later he bought another fixer upper duplex and made that one as perfect as the first one. On the job he was well liked and respected for his keen eye for perfection.

Bob never married, although he dated many beautiful women. A full-time live-in woman just didn’t seem to fit his life. He was content with working and going home to work in his yard. The neighbor figured out his abilities, and he was always over at someone’s place doing repairs.

I know all of this because Bob was my friend for 69 years. It would take me weeks to present the full meaning of his life. Evidence of his life lingers everywhere in this valley. He will be sorely missed.

I want to thank Bob’s friend and neighbor, Mode, for all the care and love she gave to Bob in the last year of his life.

There are no services planned at this time, but there will be a celebration of Robert’s life in the future.
