Reid Floyd Minster, 76, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, November 21, 2025. He was born on August 1, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the only son of Norma Reid and Floyd Edward Minster. Reid was raised in Garfield and Kearns, Utah, with his three sisters, Peggy, Deanna, and Cheryl. From an early age, he developed a great love of baseball, bowling, and golf. As a young boy, he loved being the sidekick to his Grandpa Reid on the farm in Magna, creating many cherished memories. A defining moment came when his family was sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple when he was 12 years old, helping set the spiritual foundation that guided him throughout his life as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Reid graduated from Granger High School in 1967, the same year he played on the All-Church Championship Junior Men’s Softball Team, an experience he never forgot and made sure his family wouldn’t either. His service in the British Mission from 1968 to 1970 forever changed his life. Under the guidance of two wonderful mission presidents and surrounded by missionaries who became lifelong friends, he discovered how much he loved teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and participating in the work of salvation.

After returning home, Reid married Kathryn Rae Anderson on September 1, 1971, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Having grown up together in the same ward, they quickly clicked as a natural match. Kathy’s vivacious energy and creativity balanced out Reid’s calm nature and steadiness, with a shared devotion to living the gospel of Jesus Christ. In 1972, they made their home in Orem, Utah, and over the next 14 years welcomed six daughters: Jenny, Kristin, Codi, Brianne, Marcee, and Mallory.

Reid was a naturally gifted athlete with a playful competitiveness. He excelled in baseball and bowling, but his greatest joy came from sharing sports with his daughters. He coached each of them in softball, quickly learning that coaching girls was very different from coaching boys — but he loved it! He was his daughters’ biggest fan as they competed in softball, track and field, volleyball, and cheerleading. That enthusiasm continued with his 23 grandchildren, as he was always ready to play a board game or pickleball with them.

In his professional life, Reid worked for WordPerfect and Novell before spending the final 12 years of his career at BYU. He loved the campus atmosphere, attending weekly devotionals, and the camaraderie of his colleagues and student employees. Even though he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah, he was a lifelong BYU fan. He regularly attended football games each fall with his daughters, and faithfully followed and critiqued BYU football and basketball every season.

Reid loved connecting with others and bonding over interests like sports, the gospel, and his deep love for our country. He was an avid reader and collector of books about American history and Christian discipleship. Music was another source of joy for him, especially the sound of the piano, which always brought to mind the grace and talent of his mother, an accomplished pianist and organist. Beautiful music was a spiritual experience to him. Musical theater held a special place in his heart, most of all when a daughter or grandchild was performing.

Reid was an excellent listener, slow to judge others, and quick to offer advice and encouragement. He would drop anything to help someone in need of comfort or support, whether a family member, coworker, or ward member. As he grew older, he constantly looked for opportunities to uplift others and share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Reid loved serving in his church ward and stake wherever he was needed. In the 1970s, he served as a Seventy in his stake, a cherished continuation of his missionary service. He found great fulfillment as executive secretary to the stake presidency when the Orem Hillcrest Stake was first created. One of his most joyful callings was serving as a YSA Bishop at BYU with Kathy at his side. They gave their full hearts and energy to working with college-aged kids at such an important crossroads in their lives. For the last eight years, Reid served as a temple ordinance worker in the Provo LDS Temple, later transferring to the Orem LDS Temple. He cherished his time in the temple and often shared the peace he found there, along with his testimony of Jesus Christ, with his family.

Reid radiated a steady peace wherever he went and left behind a legacy of love, faith, and devoted discipleship. He adored his family, treasuring every moment together. We feel blessed beyond words to have him as our husband and dad. We look forward with hope to a joyful reunion with him one day, certain he will greet us with his familiar dry humor and stories of all he has been doing while we were parted.

Reid is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathy Minster of Orem; his daughters: Jenny Asay (Matt), Kristin Hoggan (Patrick), Codi Barnes (Scott), Brianne Hardy (Jeff), Marcee Young (Marc) and Mallory Moore (Adam); 23 Grandchildren; and his sisters: Peggy Snow (Jack), Deanna Funcannon (Doug), and Cheryl Chidester (Richard). He was preceded in death by his parents.
