Peggy Marie Freek stepped through the veil on August 17, 2026. She will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and generosity, which touched the lives of those who knew her. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome, valued, and loved, and her presence brought comfort and joy to family, friends, and all who crossed her path.
Peggy was born to Roy Henry Freek, Jr. and Mary Alta Berry on October 21, 1964, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, later moving to Roswell, where she graduated from high school in 1983. Soon after graduation, she joined her sister, Terry, in Provo to attend Brigham Young University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree. Some years later, she later obtained a teaching certificate. For the last 15 years of her professional career, Peggy worked at Sierra Bonita Elementary School in Spanish Fork. At Sierra Bonita, she organized an annual Christmas concert presented and performed by students with special needs. These students performed for their parents and the entire student body—always prompting many happy tears from the audience. She enjoyed every minute of preparation leading up to the concert and suffered from all the free time she was left with in the weeks that followed. “She loved those kids.”
It’s not lost on Peggy’s family that couldn’t have accomplished these annual programs by herself. She benefitted from a very supportive school administration lead by then-principal, Mike Larson, volunteer students and exceptional colleagues involved with the Special Needs curriculum. A group held in awe by Peggy’s family and who they consider spiritual giants.
Throughout her life, Peggy shared her time, wisdom, and compassion freely. Her strength, grace, and unwavering care for others created lasting memories that will be cherished for generations by those left to mourn her passing, who include her sister Terry Rae, brothers Arthur Henry and David Wayne. All Freeks. Also, her niece Amber Fitts, grandniece Rainee Fitts and grandnephews Christian and Caelan. In their grief, they celebrate a life well lived, the many gifts she gave to those around her and the example she set by never complaining—in spite of the pain she endured in her final years. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all those who loved her, and her memory will continue to inspire them.
In her passing, she joins her parents, brother Roy Henry and sisters Vicki Gale, Patsy Ann, Martha Jane, Rose Mary and Betty Jane and nephew J.R. Fitts who preceded her.
Peggy will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love, gratitude, and affection.
