Patricia Anne Oroian Young, 78, passed away in Orem, Utah on June 25, 2025, after a sudden illness. She was born June 26, 1946, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to Brota Oroian and Millicent Emily Warner. She married Steven Allan Young on July 2, 1966, in Dallas, Texas and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Patricia lived a life of service. When she was a child, her neighbor, Sybil, taught her how to sew and she never stopped. She always looked for opportunities to share this talent, whether it was by making face masks during Covid, reading pillows to promote literacy in children, or taking part in making quilts for veterans through the Quilts of Valor organization. Pat created a local group called The Comfort Quilts Project made up of volunteers who provided handmade quilts for multiple fire departments in the Sturbridge, Massachusetts area and Shriner’s Hospital. Most children she knew were gifted a quilt when they were born as part of this labor of love. Her life’s work was her passion for family history research. She had spent the better part of forty years searching for her ancestors and creating a family tree consisting of over 60,000 names. Pat spent her life in the service of others in the charitable organizations she belonged to including Lions (Lioness) Club, Girl Scouts, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (in many aspects), Quilts of Valor, Comfort Quilts project, and Hays County Geneological Society. She delighted in teaching anyone who was interested in learning something new. One of her very favorite callings in the church was working with the young women. She taught them as much as she could about being resourceful, having fun, and never shying away from serving others.
Pat cared for everyone and never knew a stranger. Her friends will always remember her kind and generous nature, especially when they make pies using her blue-ribbon award-winning pie crust. Pat took pride in being the eldest of eleven children and being the big sister. As a military spouse who adapted well to change, Pat was always up for an adventure. She lived in several places during her lifetime including Rhode Island, Texas, Philippines, Arizona, California, Massachusetts, and Utah. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed the National Parks of the United States. Pat was a working mother of five children. She spent a lot of years as a bookkeeper and eventually graduated from Southwest Texas State University (Now TSU) with a degree in accounting. Pat will be remembered for her love of people, knowledge, quilting, genealogy, service, and fun!
Patricia is survived by her five children: Tara (Kevin) Snow, Robin (Russel) Brown, James Young, Emily (Chris) Olivo, and Elizabeth Young (Jan Weidner). Grandchildren: Julia, Abby, Olivia, Anna, Adam, Lexi, Spencer, Haleigh, Avery, Juan, Donovan, Devon, Christopher, Camden, and Emery.
