Orvin LeRoy Shepherd, 91, passed away on September 27, 2025, in Orem, Utah. He was born on May 30, 1934, in Levan, Utah. On December 8, 1956, he married Doris Adell Hall in Yuma, Arizona. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple.
Orvin served 20 years in the United States Navy, including during the Vietnam conflict. After retiring from military service, he worked in the mail rooms at Brigham Young University and Eastern Montana College which later became Montana State University. He also served as a temple worker in the Billings, Montana Temple.
He enjoyed singing at various functions both solos and small groups. He frequently went hunting with family members. He enjoyed running and even did at least one full marathon, and later in life took up walking. While living in Billings, Montana, he frequently walked the streets picking up litter, for which he received a certificate of acknowledgment. After retiring, he made a replica pioneer handcart that he used in parades, and was later donated to Martin’s Cove. His hobbies also included coin collecting, stamp collecting, square dancing, and rock tumbling.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Adell Hall Shepherd; his oldest son, Randall Shepherd; and his infant son, Robert Shepherd. He is survived by his children: Tonya Young (Sterling), Kevin Shepherd (Daisy), Gerry Shepherd (Alice), and Lorri Waechtler (Fritz); along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be cremated, with a graveside memorial to be held at a later date.
