Norma Jean Allen

November 5, 1928 — October 29, 2018

Jean Allen (Norma Jean Conder) passed away on Monday, October 29th - one week before her 90th birthday.  She is the youngest and last remaining of the seven children born to Claude and Hilda Conder.

She was born and raised at Olmstead, a little known place at the mouth of Provo Canyon.  The river was her playground as a child, where she learned to hunt, fish, swim and hike.  She met her husband, John O. Allen at Lincoln High School, and they were married and sealed together on December 14th, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple.  John completed his bachelor and master degrees while living in various parts of the country. They then settled in Cheyenne, Wyoming to raise their children, where John was the Executive Director of the Wyoming Taxpayers Association until he passed away in January of 1990.

Jean devoted herself to her family. She had an amazing work ethic and was the epitome of selflessness.  She made every one of her 6 children feel loved, well-cared for and that they were the center of her world every day.  She and John loved to dance and to travel. She continued to travel after he passed.  She was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, serving in the Stake Relief Society Presidency, and as Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary Presidents at numerous times.

She began to suffer from the effects of dementia about 13 years ago, and steadily grew worse.  But she never lost her sweet, loving, caring personality, right up to the very end.  We held a graveside service and buried Jean next to John on November 2nd. A celebration of her life with immediate family was held that evening.

She is survived by all six of her children, David (Pauline) Allen, Salt Lake, Pam (Floyd) Hassinger, Orem, Steve (Michelle) Allen, Heber, Cynthia (Bruce) Neibaur, Midway, Phillip (Vicky) Allen, Las Vegas, and Laurel (Eric) Hansen, Chicago, 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
