Norma Gail Larson

January 1, 1939 — May 18, 2024

Vineyard

Our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, Norma Gail Rogers Larson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18th, 2024.

Norma Gail was a New Year’s Baby, the firstborn in Winslow, Arizona on January 1, 1939. She was the only child of Trent Hugh and Gavere Richards Rogers. Her father’s career in highway construction required frequent moves allowing a young Norma Gail to experience many parts of Arizona and even South America where a highlight of her childhood was living for a few years in Cartagena, Columbia where she learned Spanish and adored her pet monkey, parrot and sloth!

After returning to Arizona in her teen years, a beautiful Norma Gail began modeling, dancing, and participating in local beauty pageants ultimately being crowned as Miss Phoenix and Miss Arizona National Guard. Additionally, she had a role as “Dolly the Silver Dollar Girl” on a children’s TV program in the Phoenix area called Comedy Caravan.

In 1957, she met the love of her life, Robert Ivan Larson, with whom she shared an electrifying kiss under the grand piano at The Mazona that led to a courtship and on December 21, 1957, they were sealed in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple.  To their marriage came six strapping sons and a precious daughter, fulfilling her dream of having a large family.

Pursuing higher education at BYU, Bob and Gail moved to Provo, Utah, where ultimately they decided to settle. Gail was an excellent student and obtained a degree in Elementary Education.

Her hobbies and interests included nurturing her children, gardening, baking, cooking, playing Yahtzee and Scrabble, cheering on the BYU Cougars and the Utah Jazz and serving her neighbors.

Following her mother’s example, she was a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in which she held many offices over the years. She cherished her pioneer heritage and would readily share those stories with her children. Above all, she was a disciple of Jesus Christ and freely shared her testimony of the Restored Gospel. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in which she served faithfully to include two service missions with her husband.  She leaves a legacy of love and faith that will greatly impact generations.

Gail is preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, and a son, Mark. She is survived by her husband, and children: Trent (Andrea), Sarah (Mark’s wife), Terri (Mark) Peterson, Chad (Christine), Kirk (Trisha), Ryan (Mindy), Steven and 24 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
