Scott Liston, age 59, of Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, in Payson, Utah, surrounded by his children.
Born on November 19, 1965, in Provo, Utah, to Sherril and Sherry Liston, Scott spent his childhood in Orem and graduated from Orem High School. He grew up building trails, riding motorcycles, and racing BMX bikes. He even used a backhoe to carve out dirt tracks for the team to race on. His love for Native style silversmithing began at just 10 years old, when he learned to make jewelry from Native American artisans. With a keen eye for detail, he created beautiful, meaningful pieces for many over the years. A true jack of all trades, Scott had a natural ability to build, fix, and create just about anything.
An entrepreneur at heart, Scott wore many hats throughout his life. He worked in construction specializing in stucco and operating heavy machinery, he did the excavation for subdivision developments. He was a talented jeweler and lapidary, a skilled cabinetmaker, and crafted custom van builds with all the touches, from shag carpet to oak millwork. He was also a farmer, wrought iron welder, beekeeper, pine nut picker, treasure hunter, fisherman, bullet loader, and target shooter. Always working with his hands, Scott was a perfectionist and found joy in creating and helping others in any way he could. Above all, he was a devoted dad and proud grandpa. His quick wit and fun sense of humor made him a joy to be around, and his absence is deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Scott is survived by his loving parents, Sherril and Sherry Liston; and his children: Nicole Coomer (Adam), with grandchildren Zara, Nixon, Holland, and Nora; JayLee Liston (Bailey), with granddogs Roxy and Aspen; and Montana Liston (Idalis), with grandchildren Pheonix and Hudson. He is also survived by his siblings: Michael Liston; James (Rebecca) Liston; Layne (Joleen) Liston; Russell (Dana) Liston; and Becky (Michael) Phillips; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Scott’s legacy of creativity, resilience, and laughter will live on through his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered always for his generous heart, sharp humor, and the love he gave so freely.
