Orem

“Lester Deuel Campbell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and disciple of Christ, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, at the age of 80. He was born in Shelley, Idaho, to David Odell Campbell and Leah Harker Campbell.

Lester served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western Canadian Mission (1959–1961). He later served a mission with his wife, Linda, in the Provo Utah Mission from 2009 to 2010.

He earned degrees from San Bernardino Community College and Brigham Young University, receiving both a Bachelor's and a Master of Science in Geography. (1974)

Lester dedicated his career to religious education with CES, teaching seminary and institute for decades at Farrer Junior High, Springville Junior High, Orem High, Liahona High School in Tonga, Mountain View High and Lakeridge Junior High. He also worked with FARMS, continuing his love of learning and gospel study. He spent time serving on the Orem Planning Commission and City Council.

He was a creative soul who loved gardening, rock collecting, woodturning, and carving—often gifting his handmade work to family, friends, and neighbors. He was an avid reader and researcher of near-death experiences and a loyal BYU sports fan, holding football season tickets for over 35 years.

Lester is survived by his sisters, Rose Hanson (Doug) and Bonnie Romrell (Dale); children: Aaron (Lauren), Laura, Spencer (Stephanie), and Megan (John Carter); and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings, wife Linda, daughter Holly Ann, and granddaughter Victoria Engler Campbell.
