Lawrence Lamar Buxton

October 15, 1945 — January 18, 2024

Orem

Lawrence Lamar Buxton, age 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2024.  Lamar was the oldest of five siblings and was born on October 15, 1945, to Zeniff Odeen Buxton and Alice May Wortley Buxton in Tremonton, Utah.

Lamar played trombone in his youth and marched with his high school marching band.  He graduated from Bear River High School in 1963.  Lamar served an honorable LDS mission in the California North Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1964 to 1966.

Lamar married his sweetheart and eternal companion, Margaret Ann Peterson, on June 16, 1967, in the Logan Utah Temple, and together they raised seven children. He loved his family and enjoyed attending events with them – especially BBQs.  After retirement, he cherished visits from his family.  Lamar loved to play pool, snowmobile, and watch trains.  He had strong convictions and belief in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Lamar grew up farming and took over the family farm for a few years in addition to working for Coca-Cola. He delivered Coca-Cola for 11 years.  He later attended Bridgerland Technical College and became a journeymen machinist for Thiokol Propulsion until his retirement in 2009. He machined components for the solid rocket boosters on the space shuttle.

He was a lifetime scouter and held many positions in the Boy Scouts of America.  He led his troop to the National Jamboree in 1985.  He served on the Eagle Scout Board of Review for the Golden Spike District.  He earned the District Award of Merit and received scouting’s highest honor, the Silver Beaver Award for his many years of dedicated service to the Boy Scouts of America. He ran for county commissioner and participated in many rallies to help farmers across America.  He was proud that all of his sons earned their Eagle Scout award, and he attended many of his grandson’s Eagle Scout projects.

Lamar is survived by his four siblings, Dale (Susan), Von (Vivian), Loralee Andersen (Heber), and Norma Ann; his seven children, Blair (Christie), Tiffany Rhodes (Mark), Delmar (Marcee), Janeal Pollock (Dave), Blake, Danielle, and Ryan; his 19 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
