Kevin Scott Wood, age 66 of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025. Services are under the direction of Wheeler-Sundberg Funeral Home of Orem.
Kevin was born in Alhambra, California and grew up in Monrovia and Arcadia, California. He graduated from Arcadia High School in 1977, where he was active on the wrestling team and in the Arcadia Apache Marching Band playing the trumpet and marching in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. As a youth he was also active in the Boy Scouts of America. Following his graduation from Arcadia High School, Kevin attended Pasadena City College studying art, then in 1978-1980 he served a proselyting mission in Melbourne Australia for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Kevin had many lifetime interests, including buying, restoring and selling sports cars and riding his unicycle. He was also continuously singing in barbershop quartets and sang lead in five performing quartets, as well as two barbershop choruses, including Masters of Harmony. Both of his barbershop choruses won SPEBSQSA international championships.
Kevin’s professional career included working as a sign painter at Truxign Truck Lettering Service which was founded by his father, Ray Wood in 1957. Kevin later bought the business and ran it for many years. He was also active in financial planning and insurance and sold various insurance products and plans for many years.
In retirement, Kevin was a fiercely independent, solo world traveler, visiting countries in South America, Asia, Europe, the Pacific Islands and nearly every state in the United States of America.
The son of Byron Ray Wood (d. 1989) and Barbara Pennington Wood (d. 2010), Kevin is survived by his brothers, Michael (Carol) of La Verne, California and Bartley (Peggy) of Vancouver, Washington. Kevin’s five children, McCall, Haley, Chloe, Elliott and Sophie also survive him and live in Utah. Kevin is the grandfather of nine grandchildren with one more on the way.
Services are pending and will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembering the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
