Kendrick John Hebert

February 3, 1930 — November 20, 2023

Los Alamos, New Mexico

Kendrick John Hebert, age 93, passed on November 20th, in Los Alamos, New Mexico.  Ken was born on February 3rd, 1930, in Middleborough, Massachusetts, the son of Marie and Joseph Hebert.

Ken grew up in the small town of Plymouth, Massachusetts with his two brothers, Russell, and Ronald.  It is here where he met the love of his life, Jeanette Marie Whiteley. They were married December 30th, 1953, at St. Ambrose Church in Hollywood, California. They settled in the Los Angeles area, where Ken accepted a job at Caltech.  They had four loving children, Keith, Janeen, John, and Lisa.  They moved to Orinda, California, in 1966, where Ken accepted the position of Director of the Computer Center at University of California, Berkeley, where they raised their four children. They retired in 1986.

Ken proudly served in the United States Marine Corp, achieving the rank of Sergeant, from 1948 to 1952.  Ken loved spending time with his family camping and fishing. Ken loved to travel and took some wonderful trips to Europe and all throughout the United States. Ken and his family especially enjoyed their annual camping trips on the beach up to Anchor Bay.  In 1999 they moved to Orem, Utah where he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2019 Ken moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, to be closer to his daughter, Lisa Gonzales, and her family. Ken loved “Taco Tuesdays” at Muy Salsas and going to Buffalo Thunder Casino afterwards.  He also enjoyed an occasional beer at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) where he was always greeted with smiles and hugs.  Everyone whom he met loved his stories and upbeat personality.

Ken is survived by his son Keith (Darlene) Hebert of Orem, UT, daughter Janeen (Jim) Johnsen of Steamboat Springs, CO, daughter Lisa (Ray) Gonzales of Los Alamos, NM, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many nephews, great nieces, and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette, his son John, grandson Michael and nephew Tommy.

Ken was deeply loved by everyone who knew him. Ken will be remembered for his love of gardening, outdoor adventures, generosity, and a glass of red wine at 4:00 pm each day.
