John Owen Larson

John Owen Larson, age 70, passed away in Provo, Utah, in the early hours of December 15, 2025. He was born on January 29, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Everett G. Larson and Eleanor Rawson, where he also grew up.

John served a faithful mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Washington, D.C. Following his mission, he attended Utah Valley Technical College in Orem, Utah, where he studied computer programming.

John married the love of his life, Ellen Marlene Goodman, on July 25, 1980, in the Provo, Utah, Temple. Together, they made their home in Orem, Utah, where they raised their six wonderful children.

John worked as a truck driver for most of his adult life, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family, until his health began to fail.

John enjoyed being outdoors and especially loved spending time in the mountains camping. He had a deep love for reading and enjoyed any book he could get his hands on, with a special fondness for Louis L’Amour novels. He was wonderful in the kitchen and loved cooking for his family—especially his famous Mickey Mouse pancakes, which brought joy and laughter to many mornings. Above all else, he cherished spending time with his family, who were the center of his life.

John is survived by his six children: Everett (Amanda), Tara Ramos (Fernando), Michael (Genni), Hillary, Jennifer Ramos (Mario), and Sara. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Kary Collins, and his stepmother, Thelda Gifford.

John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marlene; his stillborn son, Terry; his father, Everett G. Larson; his mother, Eleanor Rawson; his brother, Everett James; and his granddaughter, Liliana.

John will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his faith, and the many simple joys that brought meaning to his life.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 12:15 pm at Wheeler-Sundberg Funeral Home, 495 South State Street, Orem, with a viewing held that morning from 11:00-12:00 pm prior to the services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State Street, Provo.
