Jane Esther Allred, 87, loving mother and caring grandmother/great grandmother, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at her home in Orem Utah. She was born November 5, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Rev. Edmund Howard Steelman and Pearl Bailey. She married Harley Reginald McDaniel Sr. In Georgetown TX, in 1955, together they had Harley Reginald McDaniel Jr., Howard Raymond McDaniel (deceased), Homer Ross McDaniel (deceased) and Herman Rexford McDaniel. After a divorce she moved to Orem Utah where she later met and married Alma Richard Allred (widower) on September 1, 1978, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Soon after their marriage, they welcomed their baby boy Paul Allred. Richard preceded her in death on March 29, 2001.

Jane was a microbiologist and worked at BYU as well as Primary Children’s Hospital as a lab technician for many years, she later graduated from BYU with a degree in microbiology. She was a homemaker as well as a substitute teacher for local schools. Her and Richard began to provide foster care for children who had need of a safe home, she had always wanted to have a daughter and was able to find several special little spirits, one in particular touched her heart in a big way, little Brii. Brii was the light of her life in her later years and brought her much joy and happiness. She cared for Brii and treated her as one of her own, Brii had a very special place in her heart and the feelings were mutual.

Jane is survived by her children, Reggie McDaniel (Roxane), Rex McDaniel (Lorraine), Paul Allred (Linda), Milli Goesch (Stewart), James Allred (Donnell), David Allred (Renae), Joe Allred (Debra), Melody Cluff (Randall), Beth Allred, Alice Wilson (Scott), Deone Allred and Brii Shumway. She is survived by her brother John Steelman and Sister Janet Speakman. She is survived by 43 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Ray McDaniel, Homer McDaniel, daughter Ruthann Reynolds (Ed living) and daughter in-law Donnell Allred.

A viewing will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street, Orem, UT 84058. The funeral will follow the viewing and begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary Chapel. Her burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery following the funeral services. She loved flowers and if so inclined, flowers may be brought to the services by attendees.
