James Robinson

February 6, 1935 — August 2, 2018

James Lorin Robinson, 83, of Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in his home on Thursday, August 2, 2018.  He was born February 6, 1935 in Caliente, Nevada to Albert Lorin Robinson and Maud Ashley Hatton Robinson.  He was the 6th of 8 children.  He married his eternal companion Vanae Rowley on June 12, 1959 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

As a young child he and his family moved to Cedar City Utah, where he attended school and graduated from Cedar City High School.  He served a full time LDS mission to the Southern States Mission and upon his return he met and married Vanae.  Soon after their marriage he was drafted into the army, serving in the 2nd Missile Command in Fort Carson Colorado.  Jim and Vanae were blessed with 7 children.  He loved to work with his hands whether it was with wood in his shed or projects around his home.  Many were recipients of his hand made canes.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, family vacations, and teaching his children valuable lessons.  He enjoyed working with the youth as a baseball coach, crossing guard and scout leader.  Jim worked for BYU. After his retirement from the Geneva Steel Plant, he worked for the LDS Church for 14 years.  He served faithfully in many callings in the LDS Church including being a ward clerk and Elders Quorum president, but his love was being a scout leader.  One of the highlights of Jim and Vanae’s church service is their mission to Cove Fort.  Jim was known to be an ornery, loud, tell it like it is kind of guy, however, he was a sweet, caring, loving, kind husband, father, grandpa, and friend.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vanae, and 7 children Colette (Dennis) Rogers of Ashton, ID; Shauna (Eric) Gillespie of Paulsbo, WA; Denise (Bruce) Dewey of Rock Springs WY; Richard (Celese) Robinson of Ripon CA; Arden (Dawn) Robinson of Canon City CO; Craig (Xochitl) Robinson of Washington Terrace, UT; Stephanie (Eric) Adams of Hooper, UT; 30 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, and 1 brother Don A. (Janice) Robinson of Kanarraville UT.  He was preceded in death by his parents and 7 siblings.

Funeral services will be held Saturday August 11, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Stonewood 1st ward LDS Chapel located at 575 South 400 West, Orem, Utah.  A viewing for family and friends will be held Friday evening, August 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street in Orem, and on Saturday just prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery with Military Rites by Alex Mitchell and the American Legion.  In lieu of Flowers please donate to the LDS Church Mission Fund.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Tender Care Hospice with a special thanks to Ninette, Kasandra, Heather, Cari, and Aaron Robinson (Grandson) as his CNA.
