James Hoag

James Lewis Hoag, 78, of Orem, Utah, passed away August 16, 2021. He was born October 9, 1942, in Battle Creek, Michigan to Lewis Truman Hoag and Emily Ida Marie Kader. He was married to Karen Ann Rupp from September 21, 1966 – 1994. He married his lovely wife Barbara Cox Hoag on February 29th, 2000. They were later sealed on May 14, 2016 in the Mount Timpanogos Temple.

James served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1964. During his military years, he taught the young airmen electronics in Biloxi, MS. He earned his electrical engineering degree at Brigham Young University in 1971. James worked and retired as a computer programmer with IBM for 27 years.

James’ biggest passion was music, and he spent a good portion of his life listening to music, watching music videos, going to concerts, studying artists, and ultimately writing his own book series; Legends of Rock & Roll. Also, James was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in many positions including branch president in North Dakota, and stake clerk in Rochester, Minnesota. He loved being a Boy Scout leader for both of his sons for a number of years.

James is survived by his five children with Karen Hoag of Orem, Utah: Matthew (Stephanie) Hoag of St. George, Utah; David Hoag of Provo, Utah; Kimberly (Marthen) Lumingkewas of Taylor, Texas; Kathryn Sandor of Denver, Colorado; Kristin (Curtis) Gardiner of Erlangen, Germany; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; his loving wife Barbara Hoag and her five children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and his brother Martin Kader and sister Laura Hookway, and was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Clemens.
