Jake Madigan left this life to join family and friends with his Heavenly Father on September 22, 2024. Born March 19, 1942, to Arthur Francis Madigan and Alice Louise Bauer in Van Nuys, California.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Kay Teverbaugh, his parents, and his half-sister, Marguerite Gallear.
Jake is survived by his twin sons, Vance (Jessica) and Lance (Sara), and brother, Harvey (Laura). Jake and Carolyn also have eight grandchildren, Alex (Jeremy), Shannon, Allison, Brooke, Jayden, Jacob James "JJ", Hannah and Asher, and two great-grandchildren, Clara and Roland.
Jake grew up and spent most of his life in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. He married Carolyn on May 11, 1965. Soon after he was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in Okinawa during the Vietnam Conflict, Carolyn would join him overseas before his honorable discharge and return to the States. Jake earned an associate degree from Pierce College and became a land surveyor as his occupation, working for 35 years with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Upon retiring, he and Carolyn moved to Highland, Utah where they lived until her death. Jake would spend a short period of time in assistive living facilities until his death.
Jake was a great lover of sports, especially basketball, football, and baseball, although he was a bit overly competitive. An outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hiking and spent many hours with the scouts and church young men. An extreme extrovert, Jake was a friend to everyone, even people he had never met. Jake had a great passion for family history and researched thousands of names. He enjoyed many DIY projects, like leatherwork and woodworking, as well as his biggest project, building his home in Chatsworth, CA with brother Harvey’s help. He spent much of his life serving others with those skills and talents.
He was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and often expressed his love and appreciation of his friends amongst his wards. He was also the recipient of a heart transplant 18 years ago which gave him and his family many more years to enjoy together. We express our gratitude to those who made that time possible.
Funeral services will take place at the Highland 30th Ward building (9600 N. 6800 W. Highland) on Friday, September 27th at 11 am. It will be preceded by a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am, with a grave site dedication immediately following at the American Fork Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed at this link. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Intermountain Health Foundation, directed towards organ transplant research and services.
Condolences for the family can be left on this page.
