Ivan B Cook, age 91, of Provo, Utah, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, in Provo, Utah.
Ivan was born on May 22, 1934, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Ervin Cook and Lillian Ruth Betts Cook, the eldest of four children. His siblings were Terry Jack Cook, Oscar Ervin Cook, and Anita Ruth Cook Berlin.
He grew up in Idaho and Washington. His family had a small farm and a large garden. He learned to work hard and developed a love of gardening. Ivan was a good student and especially enjoyed math and science classes. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry at Brigham Young University, served in the army for two years, and then returned to BYU for graduate school.
Ivan and Carole Irene Crismon met at BYU and married on June 19, 1959, in the Arizona Temple. Together, they raised eight children. They established family routines and traditions which helped build and maintain strong relationships.
Ivan worked for the BYU Chemistry Department for 43 years, managing the chemistry stockrooms. He and his employees worked to provide the best possible lab experience for the students.
Ivan had a quiet, gentle nature. He loved to work in his garden. He was good at working with his hands and was skilled at fixing things and doing home repairs. He was a problem solver. If something wasn’t working or needed to be done, he could usually find a way to fix it or get it done.
Ivan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various church callings, including several clerk positions, an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple, and a volunteer at the BYU Family History Library.
He tried to live in such a way that his children could follow in his footsteps and grow to be good citizens and faithful children of God. He loved, served, and was an example to all.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and a grandson, Matthew Cook. He is survived by his wife, Carole Irene Crismon Cook; his eight children, Charles (Marilee) Cook, Don (JoLin) Cook, Camille (Lorin) Lund, Rosanne (Jeff) Hogge, Rebecca (Joshua) Hall, Jennifer (Klay) Ashby, Daniel (Annette) Cook, and David (Mayra) Cook; his 41 grandchildren and their spouses; and his 27 great-grandchildren.
