In Loving Memory of Fern Ann Knight Harward

Our hearts are heavy as we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved “Sweetheart” and mother, Fern Ann Knight Harward, on December 9, 2023, at her home in Orem, Utah. Born on January 7, 1939, in Provo, Utah, Fern was the cherished daughter of Ralph Waldo and Fern Young Knight.

Fern's childhood was spent amidst the beauty of Orem, growing up on a family farm where they tended to orchards, packaging fruit onto trucks to be sent near and far. Some of her favorite memories were from that time, raising horses and riding them through the Orem foothills with her best friend.

On September 23, 1955, Fern married her high school sweetheart, Val Harward, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their marriage, spanning an impressive 68 years, was a testament to enduring love and commitment.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Fern selflessly served in various callings throughout her life. Her faith was not just a part of her life; it was the guiding force that shaped her character and actions.

Beyond her spiritual devotion, Fern was an accomplished seamstress whose talents enriched the lives of those around her. Her home was always open to the lost and weary, a haven of warmth and compassion that reflected her boundless generosity.

Fern and her sweetheart shared a passion for square dancing, gracing dance floors across the state with their joyous moves. In 2002, they embarked on a mission together in Martins Cove, a testament to their shared commitment to service and their love of Christ.

Above all, Fern's greatest strength was her love, both of her family and Savior. Her life was a shining example of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. The legacy of her teachings and example will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

As we bid farewell to our dear mom and wife, we find solace in the memories of her love, laughter, and the enduring legacy she leaves behind. Though she may be absent in person, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. We will miss her dearly, but we take comfort in the knowledge that she is now in the arms of her Savior, reunited with loved ones who preceded her in this journey; her parents and brothers Ray, Ken, and Gary, as well as her sister Colleen.

She is survived by her loving husband, Val Harward, along with their six children: Russell (Julie), Rick (Postie), Terri (VL), Rob (Michelle), Suzanne (Mark), and Lori (George), as well as her 24 grandchildren plus their spouses and children ; 67 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
