Listen to Obituary

Dex William Moesser, 93, of Provo, Utah, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. He was born on December 30, 1932, in Etna, Wyoming, to Franklin William Moesser and Mae Eliza Wolfley. He married Emma Jean Lyon on March 10, 1960, in the Salt Lake City Temple. He is now joyfully reunited with Emma, their son Mark, and many beloved family members who preceded him in death.

Dex grew up in Star Valley, Wyoming, where he milked cows morning and night and developed a deep love for farm life. His favorite cow was one he proudly rode to and from the pasture. As a senior in high school, he served as class president. One summer, he and his brother worked in Jackson Hole washing dishes for $1 an hour, a significant improvement over the $1 a day they could earn at home.

Dex served an honorable mission in Oregon for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He also served in the U.S. Army Infantry for two years during the occupation of Germany. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and spoke often, with pride, of his service to his country.

Having grown up during the Great Depression, Dex was naturally frugal and disciplined with money. He believed in living within his means, saving carefully, and avoiding debt—paying cash for his first home. Though practical, he also valued quality. He and Emma began their life together with a Mercedes, and he took care in selecting well-made furniture. Most importantly, he invested in what mattered most: nutritious food for the family, piano lessons for his children, and memorable road trips.

To provide greater opportunities for their children, Dex and Emma made their home in Provo while Dex traveled during the week for work in Price and Vernal, returning on weekends. This arrangement required sacrifice from both parents. When once asked why he worked so hard and spent so much time away, Dex—rarely emotional—tearfully replied, “It’s for you.”

Dex could be the life of the party. He loved boating, fishing, and camping. On one memorable family trip, when the children wanted ice cream, he bought a half-gallon, sliced it into six portions with his pocketknife, and insisted everyone eat quickly before it melted, turning a simple moment into a lasting family story.

He also maintained high standards at home. Each child was expected to eat two servings of vegetables at dinner and finish everything on their plate—no wasting allowed. Having faced health challenges earlier in life, Dex and Emma adopted a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, with very little sugar. Their family credits this lifestyle for his long, healthy, and largely pain-free life.

Dex was known for his warm smile and genuine love for people. As a service technician for Unisys computers, he earned a reputation for hard work and kindness. Even in his later years, he remained cheerful and affectionate, often reminding his children how “precious” they were to him. He worked hard, loved deeply, and rarely complained.

Dex is survived by three children: Michelle Pfister, Teresa Camp, and Bruce Moesser. He was a proud grandfather to Colton, Evan, Katelyn, Jenica, Jocelyn, Jeslie, Jonah, Mckell, Sherise, Tatum, Tommy, and Whitney, and a great-grandfather to Alice, Austin, Bella, Blair, Blake, Brayden, Clark, Cooper, Dean, Danny, Finn, Goldie, Holden, Harper, Harris, Hartley, Jordyn, Kimmy, Logan, Luke, Parker, Scottie, Seve, Sloane and Warner.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the church located at 1260 West 1150 North, Provo, Utah. A closed-casket visitation will precede the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Orem City Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion.
