Dean Carl Prestwich

Dean Carl Prestwich peacefully passed away on July 25, 2026, after a life well lived—a life defined by faith, hard work, selfless service, and unwavering love for his family and the Savior.

Dean was born on March 27, 1938, in Lehi, Utah, to Armeldo Prestwich and Lylia Jean Johnson. He was the tenth of thirteen children. At just seven years old, he began working at his family's sawmill, where he continued until he was 37. Dean spent all 88 years of his life in Orem, Utah, a community he loved and faithfully served.

Dean married Judith Lou Miller on March 20, 1957, and together they welcomed their son, Kirt. He honorably served six years in the Air National Guard, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

On November 11, 1977, Dean married the love of his life, Hope Rasmussen. They were later sealed in the Manti Utah Temple. Together they were blessed with two children, Tyler and Kati, and lovingly helped raise their great-niece, Brooke, whom they cherished as one of their own.

Dean was a gifted carpenter, superintendent, and general contractor whose craftsmanship reflected his character. A true perfectionist, he took immense pride in every project he completed. Throughout his career, he worked for Sundance Catalog, built approximately 5,000 high council tables for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and later spent 13 years with Lowe's, installing nearly 600 kitchens.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dean's greatest joy was serving the Lord. He faithfully served in many callings, including as a counselor in three bishoprics, Elders Quorum President, and for eight consecutive years on the high council. Together, Dean and Hope also served two 18-month missions at Heber Valley Camp and Mia Shalom.

Those who knew Dean will remember him not only for what he accomplished, but for the way he made people feel. He was one of the most selfless, compassionate, and generous men you could ever meet. If someone needed help, Dean was there—building, repairing, lifting, encouraging, or simply listening. He quietly served neighbors, ward members, friends, and even strangers with genuine Christlike love, never seeking recognition.

Dean found joy in life's simple blessings. He loved a perfectly cooked steak, Sunday dinners with family, any kind of dessert, the scriptures, ATV rides, and trees of every kind. He especially loved going for rides to see the leaves change color each fall. Above all, Dean treasured his family. His unconditional love was evident every day of his life. He devoted himself to caring for those he loved and continued serving them with remarkable strength and tenderness until his final days.

In 2022, Dean was diagnosed with three different terminal cancers and was given only weeks to live. Rather than focusing on the trials ahead of him, he chose to dedicate what time he had left completely to the Lord. While receiving hospice care over the next four years, Dean faithfully served in the temple he loved so dearly, completing more than 1,000 endowment sessions. His quiet determination, enduring faith, and steadfast devotion became one of the greatest testimonies of his life.

Dean's life was a living example of discipleship. He showed us that true greatness is found in humble service, steadfast faith, and unconditional love. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the example he leaves behind. His courage, patience, strength, and unwavering trust in the Savior through every trial will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know and love him. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Lisa Jameson, his devoted hospice nurse and dear friend, and to the other medical professionals whose kindness, compassion, and loving care blessed Dean and our family throughout the past four years.

Dean is survived by his children: Kirt (Lisa) Prestwich of Saratoga Springs; Tyler (Mos) Prestwich of Orem; Kati (Shad) Stevens of Heber City; and stepchildren: Sheila (Steven) Thayne of Orem; Jeff Roach of American Fork; Brooke Thompson of Lindon; 24 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and three siblings. Dean was preceded in death by his beloved wife Hope Prestwich; his stepdaughter: Lisa (Clark) Brereton; his grandsons: Ty Stevens and JR Roach; and nine siblings.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 225 East 200 North, Orem, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 9:00 -10:30 a.m. before the services at the church. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
