Darryl Herbert Degregg, “Chief” age 86, died July 6, 2025 in Edmonds, Washington from complications of a fall.
Darryl was born June 15, 1939 in Racine, Wisconsin, a son of Herbert Quinn and Alice Marie Cobb. Darryl was the oldest of 3 brothers.
He joined the US Navy and served our country honorably for 30 years before retiring as a Master Chief. He earned his MA degree at San Diego State and spent his career traveling all over the world on his ship the USS Enterprise. After he retired from the Navy he went to work for the US Postal Service where he served as an administrator, after his second successful career he finally retired.
Darryl had a great love of dogs, he made a conscious decision not to have children but his dogs were his kids. He named every female dog Precious and his males were named Buddy, all Alaskan Malemutes, Akitas and Rottweilers, “a man’s dog.” The Chief could spin a great story, he had many about the good old days and his time in the Navy. He was proud to be a member of the Greatest Generation, he was frugal, but generous, he never complained if he was not feeling well and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. Darryl had a great sense of humor and the most hilarious laugh. He collected old cars, was a pool shark and loved an old cowboy shoot em up.
He lived in San Diego,CA and loved his home there with his ocean view and zipping around in his Corvette and Hummer He was a merciless flirt and loved pretty women! The Chief was a great brother and Uncle. He lived an exemplary life of service, patriotism and hard work. We were so lucky to have had you in our lives, we’ll miss your phone calls, corny jokes and tall tails!
Darryl is survived by his brother, Michael (Shelly) Degregg of Everett, WA, his only niece Theresa (Kelly) Sundberg of Orem, UT and his best friend and cousin Pat (Maribell) Nelson of Happy Valley, OR. He was preceded in death by his brother, mother and father.
The family would like to thank Linda for her kindness, patience and love for Darryl. Linda was the last beautiful lady he loved with all his heart, she took great care of him and we are eternally grateful to her.
Private graveside services will be held with full military honors. Fly high Chief!!
