Christy Lynn Orton Martensen, 73, passed away in Orem, Utah, on June 3rd, 2025, surrounded by dear friends and family. She was born on April 7th, 1952, in Walla Walla, Washington to Grant and Pearle Orton. Christy was the third of four daughters. When she was 13 years old, she moved with her family to Honolulu, Hawaii. Her experience in Hawaii was a memorable time she spoke of fondly.
After three years in Hawaii, her family moved to Yakima, Washington. She attended Eisenhower High School where she was a cheerleader and graduated with the Class of 1970. She cherished the bonds she shared with her sisters and many cousins, remaining close to them throughout her life.
Christy went on to attend Washington State University and later pursued her Master’s degree in Speech Pathology at Brigham Young University — dedicating her life to helping others find their voice. She was a Speech Therapist in the Alpine School District for 25 years.
Christy was a beacon of love and strength in our lives. Known for her independence, infectious laughter, unwavering support, and boundless compassion and love for her kids and grandkids. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel special. She always had a positive attitude and knew what to say and how to show up for her family.
She jumped at any chance to travel and support her family and loved when it involved both. Her favorite places to travel were Lake Tahoe, Bear Lake, Hawaii, and Alaska. Her competitive nature shined the brightest when playing card games with her sisters. She ALWAYS won.
From a young age, she found joy in music, playing the clarinet and singing in every choir she could, with a special love for the church choir. Her love for God was evident in the way she selflessly served those around her. Being a part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she found joy serving in her many callings. Her favorite long-term calling was church librarian.
She threw the best Ugly Christmas Sweater/White Elephant gift exchange extravaganza every year at her house. It was a family favorite for all the nieces, nephews, cousins, grandkids, kids, and sisters. Christy loved to watch Hallmark movies and walked every morning with her dear friend Kathy Simpkins and her dog Maggie.
She is survived by her children: Amber (Brent) Tingey, Cody (Maddison) Martensen, and Lyndsey (Scott) Knight; her 10 grandchildren: Caleb, Colin, Darin, Mia, Alison, Chloe, Madeline, Mattix, Jane, and Dakoda; Sisters: Lana (Dennis) Herre, Sharon (Joel) Hansen, and Jennie (Mike) Hyde. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Gregory Todd Martensen, and her parents. Who will forever cherish her memory.
