In Loving Memory of Charles Victor Anderson “Skip” April 18th, 1932 – March 13th, 2022

Skip was born to Spencer Victor Anderson and Marvel (Burr) Anderson on April 18th, 1932 at his aunt’s house in Springville, Utah. He attended high school in Springville. Bored and unchallenged, Skip dropped out of high school in 11th grade and joined the United States Marine Corps. He soon found himself as a young Marine fighting in the Korean War as a Browning automatic rifleman. He was injured several times at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. Skip survived some of the most intense fighting of the war. His heroic efforts left him eighty percent disabled after being shot five times, suffering a severely broken nose, and loss of hearing in his left ear. The intense fighting was aggravated by extreme cold that saw average temperatures never exceeding -30 degrees. After six months of recovery in hospital in Hawaii Skip received his GED high school equivalency and later received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps.

With the help of his employer WW Clyde of Springville Utah, Skip went on to attend the University of Utah where he met the love of his life, Florence Caroline Howard “Minnie”. They were married on August 21st, 1954. Upon graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering, he went on to work with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) for nearly 28 years. Skip’s tenure at UDOT ushered in the vast majority of the interstate highway system throughout the state of Utah. A personal source of pride was the ferry boat serving Lake Powell. Skip was personally in charge of building the ferry boat named in honor of his great grandfather, John Atlantic Burr. Skip’s impressive career included an almost 8-year tenure in Richfield where he served as the District Design Engineer followed by a transfer to Cedar City with service as the District Engineer for several years. He concluded his impressive UDOT career with he and his family moving to Salt Lake City and ultimately to Orem where he culminated his career as the number two position as the Assistant Director, UDOT.

Outside of his dedicated career to the state of Utah, Skip was a father and husband. Together, he and Minnie celebrated the birth of four children and a marriage of over 67 years. Their children, Charles Victor Anderson, Jr. (Pagosa Springs, Colorado), Paula Anderson (Sigurd, Utah), Laura (Anderson) Sween (deceased), and Maria (Anderson) Beveridge (Draper, Utah) all deeply loved Skip and revere his legacy of candor, toughness, and deep-seeded and unspoken compassion toward those in need. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. In his later years, Skip volunteered as a member of the American Legion Honor Guard ensuring that veterans were given appropriate honors upon their death.

Skip is preceded in death by his brothers David and Phillip, and his daughter Laura (Anderson) Sween. He is survived by his wife Florence Caroline Anderson (Orem, Utah) and his sister Sidney Whitlock (Las Vegas, Nevada).

We would like to thank the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary of Orem for their help and care and the outpouring of support from many friends and family during these difficult times. Funeral services will be held the 4th of June, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Evergreen Cemetery located at 1997 South 400 East, Springville Utah 84663.
