Carol J. Ellertson Thomas

November 13, 1933 – January 21, 2024

Carol Janet Ellertson Thomas passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 21, 2024, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born to Paul H. Ellertson and Mable Dillingham Ellertson at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. 

She married Bernice Henderson in 1951 and had three children (Kathy, Brad, Alan) later divorced and married Claude Dee Workman in 1959 and had three children (Wendy, Steve, Janet) later divorced. 

Carol pursued a career as a surgical assistant, which she excelled at and deeply loved. She retired in 1995. 

She was intimately involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives and was the most devoted mother and grandmother the world has known. 

Carol married the love of her life Richard Jay Thomas (deceased) in 1979 and spent many happy years together in Utah and California before his death in 2004.

A few years later she met a wonderful companion Duane Lund (deceased) at a time of life where so many people would have been solitary and hesitant to engage.   They had many wonderful moments together that brought them great joy. 

Carol lived her last two years at Twin Oaks Assisted Living center where she was the life of the party and enjoyed some new and fun friendships.   The care team was phenomenal and extremely loving.  The family wishes to thank everyone there for their support, compassion, and tireless commitment to making her life so comfortable in her final days. 

Carol is survived by her daughter Kathy Kassimis (Chris Kassimis – deceased), son Steve (Shelly) Workman, daughter Janet (Rulon) Hunter. 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; sibling Mary Lou Marchbanks; sister-in-law Lila Ellertson, sister-in-law Sheila Ellertson. 

She is preceded in death by her father, Paul Herschel Ellerton, mother Mable Gertrude Dillingham Ellertson, son Brad Lund Henderson, son Alan Paul Henderson, daughter Wendy Workman, granddaughter Brooke L. Workman, great-grandson Mikayle Workman; siblings Paul Ellertson, Robert Ellertson. 

Graveside services for Carol will be held Saturday, January 27 at 11:00 am at Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah.
